Literacy Overview 

 

READING 

In Reading this term, students are continuing to build their knowledge of the sounds and are building words and sentences with these sounds.  

So far students have focussed on learning: 

Unit 1- /a/i/m/s/t, Unit 2- /n/ /o/ /p, Unit 3 - /b/ /c/g/h , Unit 4 - /d/ /e/ /f/ /v 

Next week, students will be learning sounds k/ l/ /r/ u

WRITING

In Writing, we have been focussing on the following areas:

  • handwriting, focusing on the correct formations
  • hearing the beginning, middle and end sound when writing a word
  • beginning to use capital letters and full stops to write a simple sentence
  • pencil grip and sitting correctly
  • say the sentence before writing the sentence
  • leave spaces between words.

 

SPEAKING AND LISTENING

In Speaking and Listening, students are learning to ask and respond to questions, participate in community circle and reflection time after a lesson. 

 

Numeracy Overview 

In Numeracy we have been focussing on the following areas:

  • learning to subitise small collections  
  • count on by using a number line
  • connect numbers to quantities and order and compare collections of numbers
  • place value of numbers and breaking numbers into tens and ones and learning to count forwards and backwards from different starting points  

 

Students use visual displays and concrete materials in all their maths lessons. 

 

 

Inquiry Overview 

Our topic for this term is Families are Fantastic. Students have been enjoying identifying the different things about themselves, things they like and disklike, who is important to us and recently identifying people in their family.  

 

Reminders 

Reminder to bring the reader pouch to school each day. 

 

Supporting  your child at home 

A reminder to continue to read the decodable texts that go home every two weeks with your child. Record your child’s reading in their diaries each week. Follow the instructions and activities at the front and back of the decodable text.
