Library Teachers: Jess R-D & Jane S

Students at FWPS have had a great start in the Library in 2026, bringing their school values and enthusiasm to read and borrow books. Our focus in the Library this year is allowing students as much time as possible to enjoy reading individually and with friends in a calm, comfortable and relaxed environment.
As it is their first term of Library lessons in Primary School, our lovely Prep students are learning the basics of how the Library works, where to find everything, how to care for books, and how we behave in a Library setting. They have been enjoying browsing with friends, listening to stories read by Jane and Jess, and sharing what they enjoy about books they have discovered in the Library. As the term progresses, Prep students will learn more about the parts of a book, how to choose a book to read and the differences between fiction and non-fiction books. They will begin to borrow from the Library beginning in Week 6, when they begin to attend full weeks at school. We have loved spending time getting to know our littlest new students, and what kinds of books they enjoy listening to. There’s nothing quite like a full room of happy belly laughs and big cheesy grins! They really are a joy to have in the library.
Grades 1-6 commenced borrowing during week 2, and we appreciate how many students have been returning their books on time. If your child wishes to spend more than a week with a library book, we ask that they still bring the book with them to their weekly Library session, so that we can “return” and reborrow the book for them. It helps us to know that they have not lost the book, that it is still in good condition, and it stops automatic overdue notifications from being sent to families.
In regards to borrowing, in order to allow all students a fresh start to 2026, we are allowing students who still have books from last year to borrow, but if you know that your child has a library book at home from last year, we ask that you still return it ASAP if you know where it is, or pay the fee if not, so that we can write off all missing books and replenish our stock for all students to enjoy.
If you notice that a book is damaged, regardless of whether it came to you in that state, please remind your child to let us know about it when they return the book, so we can assess the damage and mend or replace it. We want to keep our library functioning smoothly, and to ensure that all of the books on our shelves are in a state that is fit for all students to enjoy.
Jane and Jess have been most impressed with the care for our resources, the respectful behaviour we’ve observed, and the courtesy and enthusiasm of all FWPS students in the Library so far this term, and we look forward to continuing to enjoy a lovely Library experience with everyone throughout the year!
Thank you, FWPS community!
Kind regards,
Jane and Jess
