Music

Across the terms our classes have covered the main musical elements; Pitch, Timbre, Rhythm and Texture. We are now putting them together as a collective category, revising them as we go and at times exploring some extension work.

Our upper grades have enjoyed a short film, 'The Magic Piano.' This is a 3D puppet animation that uses the Chopin Etudes (played by Lang Lang) as the film score and dialogue. The characters don't speak and the music fills the gaps for our understanding of the story.

An extension of our melody work has involved an exploration of the double harmonic scale. 

We discussed that music can create pictures in our minds and our 3/4s  used their imaginations to name their patterns according to the character of their melody. 

Our F12s have been busy revisiting both rhythm and pitch. It is so lovely to see their confidence and pride as they notice that hard things can become easier, and the sweet satisfaction that comes with recalled information!
