Year 3/4

It’s hard to believe we’re already in Week 7!

We’ve just finished our class novel The One and Only Ivan, which was an emotional read and a definite class favourite. This was our fifth and final class novel for the year.

Tomorrow we’re wrapping up our persuasive letter writing, and next week we’ll begin watching movie adaptations of the class novels we’ve read this year, and looking at the difference between the books. We're on the home stretch for our literacy learning, but we're not taking our foot of the peddle just quite yet.

In Mathematics, we’ve been revising and building on multiplication and division — one last time for the year. It’s been fantastic to see how much progress students have made with the four operations, confidently applying their knowledge to more complex problems like multiplying and dividing by powers of ten and working with three- and four-digit numbers. We'll quickly touch on 3D shapes for the next 2 weeks, and wrap it up for the end of the term.

In Religious Education, we’re finishing our unit on the history of the Catholic Church in Australia. A highlight was watching an old educational video from the 1980s or 90s — the students found the vintage production style hilarious! We’ve also continued with our swimming lessons, with one more session to go tomorrow. The students have participated enthusiastically and shown great effort — I’ll admit, I’ve been a little jealous and tempted to jump in myself!

In Inquiry, we've been exploring health. Not healthy eating and movement exactly, but resilience, coping with change, managing emotions and more. It's been great to talk about things like having growth mindset, bouncing back/ resilience, neuroplasticity and other concepts with the class. There's some really useful information out there that I wish I had their age!

Amid the mayhem of the final push for Term 4, I completely forgot to take photos — my apologies! Here are a few I was able to pull together from earlier in the term when we were reading Charlotte's Web.

Wishing everyone a great weekend.

- Mr. Giles
