OUTDOOR CLASSROOM DAY THURSDAY 8TH MAY

This is a day set aside for students and our school community to celebrate the health and wellbeing benefits of spending time outdoors. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature, breathe in the fresh air and observe our environment. Last year a few classes took advantage of a sunny afternoon to enjoy an outdoor reading session, art activity and movement break.

Our Lower Juniors are enjoying time exploring their new playground. Lots of imaginary animal games around the animal sculptures and in the thick grass. Exploring and building with the sand and water play. Climbing and exploring the natural play equipment. Students running, jumping, chasing, and walking around the pathways and grassed areas. Lots of basketball playing. Enjoying the variety of native plants in our playground, the tactile feeling of the Woolly bush shrubs.

You can take time out as a family in your garden, backyard, or nearby park to enjoy the sounds of birds and explore different plants.

Costa Georgiadis the host of ABC Gardening Australia has written the first of a children’s book series called Costa’s Garden. Costa’s Greek grandparents influenced his love of nature and involved him in gardening activities from an early age. His book is a way for children to connect to nature, look at the environment around them using nature goggles. As a family, you can watch Costa on ABC Gardening Australia Junior or iview.abc.net.au.
