Year 10 Visual Arts: Collaborative Charcoal Reproductions
This term, Year 10 Visual Arts students have undertaken a comprehensive study of charcoal as a drawing medium. Students developed proficiency in various charcoal techniques before progressing to a collaborative project.
Each student was assigned a specific section of a renowned artwork to reproduce using charcoal. Upon completion of their individual components, students collaborated to reconstruct the original composition. This process required careful coordination and attention to detail to ensure seamless integration of all sections.
The completed Collaborative Charcoal Reproductions are currently on display throughout the school. These works demonstrate both individual technical skill and successful group collaboration. The Visual Arts department commends the Year 10 students for their dedication and the high standard of work achieved in this project.

Acknowledgement of Support
The Visual Arts department gratefully acknowledges the support of the Melbourne Girls' College Parents' Association. Their generous contribution has enabled the purchase of 26 professional A2 picture frames and internal mount boards, creating a dedicated exhibition space in the Auditorium foyer.
These frames allow us to display work from entire classes at once, with exhibitions rotating regularly throughout the year across Years 7 to 12. Students now have the opportunity to see their artwork presented in a professional gallery setting, fostering pride in their creative work and encouraging deeper engagement with their artistic practice.
The inaugural exhibition features etchings created by VCE Unit 1/2 Art Making and Exhibiting students, based on observational drawings of either manmade or natural found objects. These works showcase the artistic development happening in our classrooms and set a strong standard for future displays.
The Visual Arts team extends sincere thanks to the Parents' Association for their ongoing support of creativity and student achievement at Melbourne Girls' College. This contribution enriches our school's cultural environment and provides students with valuable opportunities to share their work with the broader school community.
