Assistant Principal's Report

The conclusion of Term 3 brought with it many wonderful highlights for our students and school community. In the Wellbeing space, our Wednesday Breakfast Club was filled with the delicious aroma of pancakes as staff generously volunteered their time early in the morning to cook hundreds of pancakes for a special R U OK? Day breakfast. A huge thank you to our Parent Association for their ongoing support and for the grant that helps fund these special days at Breakfast Club and that bring students and staff together from across the school.

Our Wellbeing Captains and team did a fantastic job coordinating the R U OK? Day Bake Sale on 11 September, raising awareness and fostering connection across the student body. Meanwhile, our VCE students enjoyed their traditional R U OK? cookies in the Study Centre, a small but meaningful reminder of the importance of checking in on one another and supporting those around us.

The Performing Arts team have also been exceptionally busy, with a vibrant schedule of music evenings, drama performances, and upcoming soirees that showcase the impressive talents of our students to the wider community. These evenings never cease to amaze me with the students commitment and drive in this area.

During the holidays, the Study Centre was abuzz with focused energy as students undertook practice exams in preparation for their VCAA Unit 3 and 4 examinations in November. As we look ahead to Term 4, excitement is building for Celebration Week, when our Year 12 students will enjoy their final week at MGC. A variety of themed dress up days and activities will take place in Week 2, culminating in a Whole School Assembly on Friday 17 October. This will be followed by the Valedictory Celebration in Week 3, a special opportunity to reflect on 13 years of schooling and celebrate our students’ achievements and contributions to the MGC community.

The VCAA examinations will then commence for our Year 12s and some Year 11 students, a significant milestone marking both excitement and challenge. We extend our best wishes to all senior students as they approach this important stage in their academic journey.

In Week 4, the Lyceum will once again be transformed into a gallery space for the VCE Art, Design and Media Exhibition. This event is always a highlight of the year, celebrating the creativity and dedication of our students. We warmly encourage all members of the community to visit and enjoy the exceptional works on display.

Finally, our Year 11 students will soon complete their Unit 2 exams before beginning the Head Start program, as they prepare to transition into Year 12. Likewise, our current Year 10 students will commence their Year 11 studies, a significant and exciting step in their senior school journey.

It promises to be another busy and rewarding term ahead, and we look forward to celebrating the academic, creative, and personal achievements of all our students throughout the remainder of 2025.

Year 11

It is hard to believe that 3 terms of Year 11 have gone so quickly! The Year 11 cohort continue showing that they live by the values of MGC - working diligently on their schoolwork and SACs, supporting their friends when times get bumpy and showing incredibly kindness and gratitude towards their classmates and teachers. We are so impressed!

Term 3 saw the end of the Minute To Win It homegroup competition with 11I coming out on top! It was great to see students having fun and making connections with their classmates during our homegroups. We also used our wellbeing classes to look at strategies to overcome procrastination, develop their communication and collaboration skills, reflect on SMART goals set earlier in the year and discover what kind of leader they are. Are they a North, South, East or West? We know these skills will benefit students immensely when they are preparing for their Unit 2 exams and when they enter their final year of school.

We continue to be very proud of students who go above and beyond and contribute to our school community in positive and inspiring ways. Jay Castaldo, Ananya Baskin, Chloe Dupeux and Sammy Webber (Year 9) made an engaging and powerful film about the Pedal Power Cinema, and the school’s outstanding sustainability practices and spoke very passionately at the Power of Activism Q&A evening on September 1st. Anna Issac represented our school beautifully at the National Youth UN conference in Brisbane and our performing arts and sports team continue to excel. Well done to all of you!

Term 4 will be another big term as Unit 2 classes finish up and students undertake their unit 2 exams and for many students, their first Unit 4 exam. An exciting but daunting time!! We wish you all the best of luck!

Year 12

What a terrific Term 3 and start of Term 4 it has been! Our Year 12 students have been absolutely amazing, and we're thrilled to share all the exciting things happening as they approach this significant milestone in their lives.

As we head into the home stretch, our Year 12s have been consolidating their learning and making good use of opportunities to seek support from their teachers. Students have been focused on their exam preparation and working steadily to fine tune their knowledge and skills. We encourage them to make the most of their SWOTVAC period by meeting with their teachers and producing practice exams for feedback purposes. At an assembly on Monday, students were given some helpful tips around how best to prepare for the exams and reminded to try and balance study for each of their subjects alongside some time for rest, family time and socialising.

Of course, it's not all work and no play! Our Year 12 cohort has plenty to look forward to as they celebrate the end of their secondary school journey with a fantastic variety of activities. Creative themed dress up days will give students the chance to showcase their personalities and school spirit (they already embraced the fun on Monday when the entire cohort rocked pigtails!), while the much anticipated BBQ promises to bring everyone together over delicious food.

The excitement continues with our vibrant colour run, which will transform the school into a rainbow of fun and camaraderie. The final assembly will be a special moment of reflection and celebration, followed by the traditional guard of honour that truly captures the significance of this milestone with the school cohort cheering them on as they run through the school and into the big, wide world. Students and their teachers are also getting involved in the "Guess the Prep Photo" competition which has turned the VCE study centre into a delightful trip down memory lane!

The celebrations will culminate in our special Valedictory Dinner, where students will have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate their achievements alongside their families, teachers, and peers which will be a truly fitting finale to their secondary school experience.

We couldn't be prouder of how our Year 12 students have conducted themselves throughout this year. They have worked incredibly hard, consistently shown kindness and respect to everyone around them, and supported one another through both challenges and triumphs. Beyond the classroom, they have represented our school with immense pride across numerous extra curricular activities including cadets, rowing, performing arts, sports teams, and so many more.

As we watch this remarkable cohort prepare to take their next steps into the world, we celebrate not just their academic achievements, but the wonderful young adults they have become. Here's to our fantastic Year 12 Class. You've made this year truly memorable!
