Whats Happening in the Kitchen and Garden for 2026?

Eggs and Onion Jam for Sale at the Office

Come and get your organic eggs for only $4 for half a doz. We also have a few onion jam left. I can testify this is so yummy! Serve it with your eggs and you wont be dissapointed!

Garden

Last week some of our students investigated what grows in spring and then designed a spring garden bed. They tapped into their maths skills and mapped out a 1m x 2m garden and it with fabulous veggies. Maybe you could get them to help you design or select some plants to put in your spring veggie patch.

This week the sun was shining so we headed out to the Patch. Our students were super productive and weeded, watered, cared for the chickens and made the garden look fabulous!

KITCHEN

Our theme for this round is “Family dinner” to encourage conversations around how different families might share mealtimes and the benefits of having quality family time around a table, even if it is only once a week.  This week’s menu includes an entree, main, salad and dessert to introduce what a more formal meal might look like.

SNACK SHACK

This week our Snack Shackers brought back our famous rainbow slice and it stood up to its popularity and was a complete sell out!! Next week we will serving threatened species slice which will be a selection of different slices in the theme of the habitats and environments you find our Threatened Species Bake Offs animals (kangaroon island echidna, kangaroo island koals, green sea turtle, hooded plover, bent wing bat & gouldian finch). If anyone is interested in helping out with this program, we meet on a Tuesday session 5, (2:15 - 3:15pm) or 8:45am each Wednesday to cut the slices.

Food Scrap Friday

Our Food Scrap Friday team are looking for new team members! If you have ever wondered how we make our fabulous compost for the garden and how our school is very clever at keeping tonnes of food scraps out of landfill, then the Food Scrap Friday team is for you! Come along this Friday before school as find out how you can get involved.

Recycling at Surfside - SHREDDED PAPER!

We need your shredded paper for our compost bins. If you have access to shredded paper at home or work, we would like you to donate it. You can leave it at the office or drop off to the garden Tues, Wed and Thursdays

VOLUNTEERS

If you have a spare hour or 2 per week and would like to volunteer in the best program on the Bellarine, please reach out and we will send you some info on how to get involved. Please make sure you check into the office to complete your volunteer induction (everyone must complete this each year - even if you have volunteered in the past) and have a valid Working With Children Check.
