Year 6

Year 6 Newsletter
It has been an excellent start to Term 3 in Year 6.
Visual Art
In Visual Arts, students have been exploring the work of Canadian artist, Sandra Silberzweig. We have discussed abstract artwork and taken inspiration from Sandra’s portraits to create an abstract self-portrait. Students used a variety of lines to create abstract facial features. Vibrant oil pastels were used to create these striking portraits. We think they look amazing!
Religion
In Religion this term, students are learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation which will be celebrated in early September. Father Duong came to talk to Year 6 students about the meaning and significance of this important Sacrament. Over the next two weeks, students who are asking for the Sacrament will be writing a letter to the Priest outlining why they wish to receive Confirmation and naming a Saint who inspires them in their own faith journey.
Science
In Science, students are learning about digital systems, in particular, how data is represented, stored and processed by computers. We have explored binary code, the two digit system of zeros and ones that forms the foundation of digital information. Students practised decoding messages written in binary, before creating their own codes for their peers to solve.
