Principal Report

Dear Families,

What an absolutely amazing experience my first Dana Street Primary School Fun Run was. I was blown away by the level of enthusiasm and determination our students showed for an hour. After a misty start to the morning, the sun shone for us as we ran, walked and jogged around the school grounds. It was so wonderful to see the entire community come out to support us throughout the event. We even had a community member contact the school to say how well organised and inclusive the event looked, and she was very impressed!

On behalf of the school, we would like to thank the parent volunteers who had their hi-vis on and helped supervise the corners and driveways around the track. We would also like to thank Kelly Kosloff for organising the event. From prizes and pledges to staff briefings and setup, to maps, she led the whole event for our school. Thank you, Kelly. We would also like to thank the families and community who raised funds for our school. We really appreciate the support.

World Teachers’ Day

Today we celebrated World Teachers’ Day with our teachers. Dana Street Primary School has such a wonderful group of dedicated educators. All of the staff here go above and beyond for their students and work really hard to ensure the best outcomes for all. This morning at assembly we showed a video of appreciation for our teachers. On behalf of the students and families, thank you to Kym, Maddie, Kelly K, Sarah, Sam B, Kate, Brooke, Jess, Sam P, Mr Jones, Miss Airlie, Kellie H, Emma, Claudine, Dee and Bec. We would also like to acknowledge our fabulous Casual Release Teachers (CRTs). It isn’t an easy job stepping into a classroom at short notice and following someone else's plan, and all of our CRTs do it with ease. We appreciate you all.

Japan Trip

This week we welcomed back our students who travelled to Japan. The group had the most amazing experiences. We would like to thank Miss Kylie and Mr Oliver for accompanying our students on the trip. We appreciate that they gave up their time to care for the students over the 10 days.

2027 Classes and Parent Requests

We are nearing the time when staff will create classes for 2027. Staff will do their very best to create classes that are well-balanced and cater to the children’s wellbeing, academic needs, and social growth.  Parents may make reasonable requests for their children related to learning; however, teachers cannot be requested.

To make a request, email me directly at helen.romeril@education.vic.gov.au by Friday, 6th November. Parent requests form part of our class placement process, but as we also have a range of other considerations, requests are not always granted. It would also be appreciated if you could let us know whether you are moving schools next year.

Have a great week,

Helen
