Secondary School

Exam Week

This week marks the beginning of exam season for our senior Secondary students. Our Year Twelve students have been working hard on their exams, while our Year Ten students are preparing for theirs next week. Year Eleven exams will take place in Week Nine.

For Year Ten families, information about pathway options for Years Eleven and Twelve will be shared following the examination period. Students can choose from an ATAR pathway, a blended ATAR/VET pathway, or a VET/General pathway. With so many options available, we encourage students to speak with their classroom and Homeroom teachers to explore what best suits their interests and goals.

Parents of Year Ten students are also encouraged to attend a Parent Information Evening on Wednesday 10 June, in the Library from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. This session will provide an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about these pathways.

GSSSSA Netball Cup

Great Southern Grammar recently participated in the 2026 West Coast Fever Great Southern High School Cup held at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre, with students demonstrating a high level of skill, commitment, and sportsmanship across the day.

We entered a Year Eight girls’ team, a Year Ten team, and our two senior Country Week teams. All groups represented the school extremely well and contributed to a very successful carnival.

The highlight of the day was the performance of our Year Eight girls’ team, who were outstanding throughout the competition and finished as overall winners. Their teamwork, communication, and consistency across all matches were exceptional, and they showed great composure in key moments!

Our Year Ten team also delivered an impressive performance, progressing through the competition with confidence and determination. They reached the final and were narrowly defeated by just one point in a closely contested match. Their effort and resilience were commendable, and they should be very proud of their achievement as runners-up.

In addition, we took our two senior Country Week teams, who used the opportunity to gain valuable match play experience in preparation for their upcoming competition. Their involvement in the carnival was important in building combinations, fitness, and confidence against strong opposition.

Across all teams, students displayed excellent attitudes, supported one another on and off the court, and represented the school in a positive and respectful manner. It was pleasing to see the level of engagement and enjoyment throughout the day.

Thank you to the staff and supporters who assisted with the organisation of the teams and to those who helped on the day. We look forward to seeing these students continue to develop and build on these performances in future competitions.

Uni Tour

Our 2026 University Tour to Perth was a fantastic success. Blessed with stunning autumn weather, the students enjoyed three busy and rewarding days exploring all five Perth university campuses and experiencing university life firsthand.

Our mid-morning departure from Great Southern Grammar on Friday made for a smooth bus trip to Perth, arriving at sunset at our lovely accommodation at Broadwater Resort in Como. That evening, the group travelled into the city to visit Edith Cowan University’s brand-new Perth city campus, which is also home to the impressive Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Students then enjoyed dinner together at Milky Lane Burger Bar (complete with its own live DJ!) at Elizabeth Quay before returning via ferry to South Perth for Yo-Chi.

Saturday provided students with a deeper look into both academic and residential life. The day commenced with breakfast and a residential tour of St George's College, led by fabulous ex-GSG students Amy, Rani, and Emma, offering students a valuable perspective on independent living and the community aspect of university life.

At the University of Western Australia, students gained an understanding of courses on offer and entry pathways during a short presentation, followed by a tour of the impressive facilities and stunning campus grounds that UWA is renowned for. Later in the day, students attended the Murdoch University Open Day, where they were able to explore faculties, interact with current students and staff, and discover a wide range of future study and career opportunities. The day concluded with a private tour of The University of Notre Dame, uniquely nestled in and around the city of Fremantle, before enjoying pizza and gelato together.

Sunday kicked off with an early breakfast in Kings Park before heading to the Curtin University Open Day. Students toured St Catherine’s College, then were free to explore the huge Curtin campus, participate in information sessions and fun giveaway activities, and explore course offerings.

The tour provided students with a broad understanding of the many opportunities available after school and encouraged them to begin considering pathways that align with their interests, strengths, and aspirations.

The World’s Greatest Shave is taking place at Great Southern Grammar next week, on Wednesday 3 June, during lunchtime in the Gym.

Fifteen brave Year Twelves and three teachers are taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave. They have committed to either shaving or cutting their hair to raise money and awareness for blood cancer.

The team has raised $17,000 so far, already surpassing our original goal of $10,000, with Mr Irving now committed to shaving his head!
