AFLW Girls AFL 9s Football Division

On Thursday 23 July, the St John’s AFLW Girls Football Team recorded an impressive 39–23 victory over a strong Heidelberg Primary School side.

Despite challenging windy conditions, the girls demonstrated outstanding perseverance, embracing the conditions and competing with determination from the start to the final whistle. Their teamwork, resilience and commitment to one another were key factors in a fantastic team performance.

The victory sees the team qualify for the Northern Metropolitan Regional Championships, which will be held on Tuesday 4 August at JC Donath Reserve, Reservoir. The winning school will then progress to the State Championships.

Congratulations to all of the girls on this outstanding achievement, and we wish them every success at the Regional Championships.

Boys Soccer Division

On Wednesday 29 July, the St John’s Boys Soccer Team recorded two impressive victories, defeating Banyule Primary School 2–0 and St Mary's Greensborough 2–0 at the Darebin Sports Complex.

The full range of Melbourne weather was on display throughout the day, with wind, rain and sunshine all providing unique challenges. The boys demonstrated outstanding perseverance, embracing the conditions and competing with determination across both matches. Their willingness to step into unfamiliar positions for the benefit of the team highlighted their selflessness, adaptability and commitment to one another, which proved instrumental in their success.

These victories have secured the team's place at the Northern Metropolitan Regional Championships, to be held on Thursday 13 August at Darebin Sports Complex. The winning school will then progress to the State Championships.

Congratulations to all of the boys on this fantastic achievement. We wish them every success as they proudly represent St John’s at the Regional Championships.

State Representative

On Monday 3 August, Olivia A (6M) and Roberts House Captain will be travelling to Canberra to represent the Team Victoria 12 Years and Under Girls Football team in the School Sport Australia Championships. 

This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Olivia's dedication, skill and commitment to her football. Throughout the week, she will compete against the best young players from across Australia while proudly representing her state and St John's community.

We congratulate Olivia on this outstanding accomplishment, wish her every success throughout the championships, and look forward to following her journey and celebrating her achievements upon her return.
