Classrooms in the Spotlight

Room 2

We kicked off the term by celebrating 100 Days of School! Room 2 had lots of fun dressing up as 100-year-olds and taking part in a variety of physical and fine motor activities. It was a wonderful way to celebrate 100 days of learning together!

Room 2 has been focusing on staying healthy, active and safe as we explore ways to look after our bodies and wellbeing. The children have been enjoying outdoor sport lessons, developing their fundamental movement skills and making the most of some fantastic new sporting equipment we have been lucky enough to receive.

We have also been making a splash with our swimming lessons! After lots of preparation and excitement, the children have developed some fantastic water skills and learnt important strategies for staying safe around water, thanks to the wonderful teachers at Armadale Aquatic Centre. These experiences have supported our Health curriculum by helping students understand the importance of physical activity, healthy choices, personal safety and wellbeing.

With our Early Childhood Sports Carnival coming up in Term 4, Room 2 is building confidence, resilience and a fantastic “have a go” attitude. We’ll be ready to race, cheer each other on and have lots of fun!

Room 7

Room 7 has been a hive of activity this term! We have been learning about animal bridges and why they are important for helping wildlife move safely through their environment. During our STEAM lessons, students designed and constructed their own possum bridges. They have been busy building, testing and redesigning their bridges to see what works best.

In Art, we have been exploring different styles and mediums. We have looked at the work of Claude Monet and had a go at creating our own Impressionist-inspired artwork. We have also been learning about Pacifika art and exploring some of the patterns and designs used.

It has been great to see so much creativity, problem-solving and hands-on learning happening in Room 7!

Room 12

Term 3 has been another busy and enjoyable term in Room 12, with lots happening both in and out of the classroom.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming has been a great part of the term. All students who participated were enthusiastic, engaged and willing to have a go. It was great to see their confidence grow and how well they represented Room 12 and our school.

Minecraft Sustainability – STEAM

A highlight this term has been our Minecraft Sustainability STEAM program. The students have really enjoyed using Minecraft to explore sustainability through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. They have been very engaged and have particularly enjoyed the designing, creating and problem-solving activities.

Talk for Writing

In English, we completed our Balanced Argument T4W unit, learning how to look at both sides of an issue and support arguments with reasons and evidence. It has been great to see the improvement in the students' writing and their growing confidence.

We have also been working on Narrative Writing, focusing on describing settings and using descriptive language to help the reader picture where a story is taking place.

Merit Certificates

Congratulations to our Term 3 Merit Certificate recipients:

Ckeil, Madeline, Felynn and Alice.

Well done!

It is hard to believe our Year 6 students now have only one term left of primary school! Term 4 will be a busy and exciting one, and we are looking forward to making their last term together a great one.

Room 13

This term, Room 13 have been exploring sound and imagination, building on the strong connection between music, literacy and creativity that has been part of their learning throughout the year. With a love for singing and dancing, students have created soundscapes during our Talk for Writing sessions and composed a song about mythical creatures. This has supported their writing and literacy learning as they explore how music can communicate the mood of a character or setting.

Our Creation Station has provided another wonderful opportunity for students to bring their ideas to life. As they create, students develop their oral fluency by explaining their ideas, while also building collaboration and communication skills through sharing resources, problem-solving and discussing ideas with others.

It has been wonderful to see how interconnected our learning is, creating a space where students can express their ideas, build on the ideas of others, and listen to and reflect on different perspectives.

Room 18

In Room 18, we have been very lucky to be chosen to participate in the Creative Schools Program. Throughout Terms 2 and 3, we have been bringing the Ningaloo Reef to life on stage. Each week, the students added different elements of the reef and worked together to create our performance.

The students also learned about dugongs and why they are important to our ecosystem. They wrote about these rare and special animals and shared their learning through our performance.

In Week 5, the students proudly held a showcase, inviting parents and other classes to come and watch.

What an outstanding performance! The students remembered their lines, songs and actions. They performed with such confidence and enthusiasm.

DaleFest

The Neerigen Brook Primary School Choir have been practicing tirelessly this term in preparation for two major events. DaleFest provided our students with a wonderful opportunity to develop their performance skills in front of a smaller audience. They shone as they performed Different People, with Raiven featuring as a solo vocalist. He displayed great courage and musical skill during this performance. The confidence the choir developed at DaleFest was highly evident at their next event, One Big Voice.

One Big Voice

The Choir did a fantastic job representing our school at One Big Voice in the big smoke! This special event brings school choirs from across Perth together to perform, sing and share their musical talents. The support from friends and family was heartwarming, and our students were incredibly proud and excited to share the results of their hard work. Their faces were beaming when they spotted someone they knew in the crowd!

Archie also did an outstanding job as compere, representing our school with confidence and exemplifying our BEST values. Both DaleFest and One Big Voice have been fantastic opportunities for our students to develop their musical and performance skills. Well done, Choir, for all your hard work — now on to the next... WAPPA!
