Student Engagement & Wellbeing News

Hi MPWPS families,
Our school is committed to providing a child safe and child friendly environment, where students are safe and feel safe. Our Child Safety and Wellbeing policies outline the measures and strategies we have in place to support, promote and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students.
In 2025, schools were asked to develop new Acceptable Use Agreements (AUA) for digital technologies, replacing the Digital Learning (Internet, social media and digital devices) policy. The AUA’s outline student behavioural expectations regarding the safe, intentional and responsible use of digital technologies.
This policy has been developed as a draft and reviewed by the Education Sub-Committee of School Council. We invite and encourage any suggestions, comments or questions in relation to the AUA to be emailed through to elisha.katsonis@education.vic.gov.au for consideration.
In addition, all of our Child Safe policies can be located on the School website, and feedback is always welcome https://www.mooneewestps.vic.edu.au/page/241/Policies-and-Forms
This includes:
- Child Safety Policy
- Child Safety Code of Conduct
- Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations Policy
- Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy
Again, please send any questions or suggestions, regarding any of our policies to Elisha at elisha.katsonis@education.vic.gov.au
Outside Behaviour Matrix
As a school, we have been working to develop a consistent understanding of the positive behaviours that are expected from students during recess and lunchtime when they are playing outside. Students were offered opportunities to develop the expectations, with this going through a consultation process with teachers and Junior School Council. We have now finalised this in a matrix, which links our new school values with the expected behaviours.
When students know and understand what behaviour is expected of them, they are more likely to demonstrate these behaviours outside and in the classroom. We have introduced the new matrix to the students, and the current focus is on Resilience. This was presented at assembly this week and will continue to be a focus in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions about our school values or outdoor behaviour matrix, please feel free to contact Elisha.
Resilience
- I think resilience is a value because if you give up on everything you don’t get right on the first try you won’t get very far in life.
- We can show resilience at school by: going back to solve a maths problem if your teacher has said ‘not quite’, Hiragana, Dakuon etc. test if you didn’t pass the first time and trying again if your drawing doesn’t look right.
- We can show resilience at home and in the community by trying again if you didn’t do a good job on parking, redoing your cake batter/homework/sports skills if it doesn’t look right and trying to ride your bike again even if you fell off the first time.
- The value means that you can easily bounce back after a problem and keep going/try again.
- Some strengths that link to resilience are perseverance, optimism/hope, courage and cooperation.
