Principal's Views

It has been a wonderful start to the school year, with many opportunities for students to build friendships and strengthen connections across our school community. We hope you enjoy the photos and articles featured in this newsletter.
Meet and Greet Conference Success
On Tuesday we held our annual Meet and Greet Conferences. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for students and families to connect with teachers and are an important part of our commitment to building strong partnerships and open communication from the very beginning of the school year.
We were thrilled by the outstanding response, with 85% of students booked in for the Meet and Greet. Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to continuing these strong home–school connections throughout the year. If you have any follow-up questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Sport Season Begins
We are excited to see the interschool sports season underway at EVPS, with our students already making a fantastic start. Participation in sport provides wonderful opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience, fitness and sportsmanship.
Nicole and Aaron recently organised swimming trials to select our team for the District Swimming Carnival held on Monday 16th February at Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool, fourteen students were selected to represent EVPS and nine have made it through to the Division event on 5th March……watch this space!
Assemblies
Throughout the year, we will hold both Whole School Assemblies and Cohort Assemblies. These gatherings provide opportunities to celebrate achievements, share important updates and come together as a community.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend. Dates and times will be communicated via Compass, and we look forward to welcoming families as we celebrate our students’ accomplishments.
Our next Whole School Assembly will be held in week 7 on Friday 13th March at 2.45pm.
Sacred Seasons of Faith
As we move through this term, many in our community are entering significant and sacred seasons of faith.
The following words are attributed to David Pocock and Australian politician and are a fitting reminder of this time of year:
This week, Muslims begin Ramadan. Christians enter the season of Lent. Easter and Orthodox Easter will follow and Jewish families will gather for Passover.
Across continents and cultures, millions of people will fast.
Reflect. Pray. Gather. Give thanks. Seek renewal.
Different traditions. Different histories. But a shared human rhythm.
It's a reminder that beneath our politics and our differences, we are bound by something deeper: our longing for meaning, for connection, and for hope.
In an increasingly noisy and divided world, these sacred seasons invite us to slow down. To practice compassion. To look after one another. To remember that none of us walks alone.
As Desmond Tutu reminded us, we are human through our relations with others. We can only be human together.
Wherever you are, and whatever you believe, may this be a time of reflection, generosity, and renewed commitment to our common humanity.
To support our students during this time, a Prayer Room will be available at lunchtime for those who wish to pray or spend quiet time in reflection. All students are welcome to use this space respectfully.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you require any additional support.
Clean Up Australia Day – Sunday 1st March
On Friday 27th February, EVPS will participate in Clean Up Australia Day. During the week the student leaders will be coming around to every class during lunch eating time next week to tally points for students who are bringing nude food!
Students will help clean up our school grounds and take part in classroom activities designed to raise awareness about protecting our environment. We look forward to working together to make a positive difference.
