Principal's Report

Dear MPW families and friends,

We are well into Term 2 now. I would like to thank the staff and parents who assisted with the 3/4 camp last week. I again was able to attend and we all had a great time. Our students did a great job of pushing themselves to trying new activities and for some tasting new foods. Possum glider, centipede (climbing activity) and some humorous ‘red faces’ acts were the student’s highlights. Camp is a great way for the students to start the year, allowing them to get to know each other across classes and get to know their teachers a little bit more as well outside of the school environment.

Well done to our students who participated in District Cross Country last week. As always our students give their best and should be proud of their efforts. Congratulations to Estelle, Jagger, Frank, Peppa and Fletcher who have made it through to Division Cross Country finals at the end of the month.

Thank you to those who were able to support and volunteer some time at our Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall. It was a successful day, we ran out of bread, sausages and gas. After resupplying, we ended the afternoon with all sausages being sold again.

Thank you parents who helped with the Mother’s Day stall last week, and we hope you enjoyed the open morning on Friday to spend some time with your child(ren) at school.

Movie Night

Movie Night is this Friday night. Gates will open at 5pm to the Tiger Turf area. Stalls will be set up on the basketball court side of the area. As usual the screen will be setup on the soccer pitch, allowing the audience to setup on the footy oval.

There is a possibility of very light rain scheduled for later in the week, hopefully Saturday. We will be going ahead with the Movie Night based on the low chance and volume of rain expected. It may be a little cold, so we recommend bringing some blankets, jackets and possibly a rain coat to keep warm.

If you are able to volunteer time to support the running of our stalls at the movie night please add your name to the roster here.

Education Support Personnel Day

On Friday May 16th, we celebrate Education Support Personnel (ESP) Day. This special day is dedicated to recognising the incredible work and contributions of our support staff, who play a vital role in our school’s success. Education Support staff including classroom/student support, the administrative team and technicians and maintenance ensures that our school runs smoothly and provides a safe and supportive environment for our students. Let's take a moment to thank these wonderful individuals for their hard work and dedication.

Annual General Meeting and Annual Report

On 26th May at 5:30pm-6:30pm in the staffroom, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) prior to our School Council Meeting. The AGM provides the opportunity for the school to present the Annual Report for 2024 to the community, sharing highlights, areas of focus and achievements for the 2024 school year. The meeting is open for all school community members to attend.

After this meeting, the Annual Report document will be published on the School’s Website.

NAPLAN Results

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) have indicated to schools that NAPLAN reports and results will be released at the beginning of Term 3, mid-late July.  Students in years 3 and 5 will receive an Individual Student Report (ISR) if they participated in the tests. The ISR will display students’ results against the new proficiency levels for each NAPLAN domain, as well as performance ranked against the national average for the applicable year level. The report also includes descriptors for each proficiency level and NAPLAN test domain.

Student Attitudes to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey for students in Years 4/5/6 is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of their school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, teacher and peer relationships, bullying and general life. Our school then unpacks the survey results to explore opportunities to improve your child's experience at school. Survey responses are anonymous. The survey only takes 30-40 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time.

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted in the coming weeks prior to Friday 13th June 2024.

Families of students in Years 4-6 will receive further information about the Attitudes to School Survey via Compass in the coming days.
