Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

In Semester 1, students in Years 3 to 6 continued to have a weekly session focussed on Social Emotional Learning as a part of their specialist program.

Year 3 - Respectful Relationships - Positive Coping and Problem Solving

In Term 2, students will focus on developing their positive coping and problem solving skills to help them manage emotions and work well with others. Students will practise strategies to help manage their feelings in different situations. They will practise techniques like deep breathing and positive self-talk to stay calm and balanced. These skills can be helpful in coping with stress and challenges in a healthy way. Through group activities, students will explore how to co-operate with others. They will work on listening, sharing, and supporting each other, to help build stronger teamwork and collaboration skills.

Years 4, 5 and 6 - Philosophy

In Term 2, students will explore philosophy as a way to investigate some of life’s big and meaningful questions. They will engage in thoughtful discussions around fairness, rules, and ethical dilemmas, using real-life scenarios and stories to spark inquiry. By examining issues from multiple perspectives and backing up their opinions with reasons, students will be encouraged to use their critical thinking and reasoning skills. Philosophical conversations will encourage students to reflect on the impact of their actions, evaluate ideas of justice, and consider what it means to make ethical decisions.
