Ways of Engaging with the Learning

For all students in O’Connor Catholic College, the ways of engaging with the learning can look different, but they all focus on achieving the goals identified by students. This can be a focus on improving literacy and numeracy skills, but also knowledge in technology, religion and so many varied areas of expertise within the school grounds.

As part of this process, students engage in focus groups that address an area of development. These can be self-identified by students, or identified by teachers working in collaboration through the common moderation process and discussion.

It is this moderation process that allows for collaborative discussion on teaching and learning activities that best suit the needs of students.

At O’Connor Catholic College, we utilise a collaborative process in designing and implementing learning experiences, through co-teaching and providing students with the opportunity to engage with learning in unique ways.

This blend of explicit instruction and student-centered learning, allows for the delivery of key information but also includes students in the learning processes as drivers of their learning. Engaging in discussions about how they are learning, and the importance of the content to become critical thinkers who are questioning the world around them.
