On Friday 26th April, we went to the Victorian State heat of the Kid's Lit Quiz. It was really fun, and the best part was the free books! We won a book each and lots of art supplies. Kaia won the raffle prize of four signed books.
There were questions about loads of books and authors (100 questions were asked), under various categories such as, superheroes, classics, umbrellas and monkeys, (I loved the monkey questions). Another great category was questions that other kids made up last year.
We knew we were in front before the last category of questions was asked. So, at the end when they were announcing the places our hearts were pounding. When we weren't third or second, we were worried we might be fourth. But NO! WE WON!!! We have been invited to Sydney to compete in the Nationals for Australian Champions.
Two teams were sent to compete at the Kid's Lit Quiz Competition and all 7 students worked hard taking part in 'training' sessions after school two afternoons a week during Term 1. Students played fun literature games to build their knowledge of authors and books. One student commented after their first 'training' session.
"I get to talk about books, play games about books and eat snacks, this is heaven"

So many new books (fiction and non-fiction) have been arriving in both libraries, many of the books are student requests. Some titles are displayed on the Sandringham College Library Website under read and listen - new books.
The latest 50 new books can also be view by going to the library catalogue Students can log into the catalogue and search for books by using their edupass email and password.
The makerspace area of the library has been unbelievably busy. It continues to be a place where students across all year levels gather to create and socialise with each other.
Students showed how creative they are by working with air drying clay during the first few weeks of term.
This week they have been making cards for a special person in their life for Mother's Day.
Next week students have registered to make a little gift for that special person in their life.
Chess Club is held every Tuesday after school at Holloway Road Library (all year levels welcome).
Bluff Road Library also has a casual chess club set up on a Wednesday during lunchtime. Turn up and play against other chess players.
