Year 7 Girls Netball

On Wednesday the 11th of June, ten eager Year 7 girls travelled to the Ballarat Netball Association to compete against eight other teams in the Eureka Division Netball Competition.

Game One saw the girls ease into the competition with confidence. Strong defence by Thea, Nilah and Zoe kept Mount Rowan B goalless, and with the help of 9 goals by Ele, we came away with a 17-0 win.

The girls continued to dominate in Game Two against Phoenix winning 10-1, Game Three against Mount Rowan A winning 12-3, Game Four against Daylesford winning 12-5 and Game Five against Mount Clear B winning 14-0.

We knew that Game Six was going to be a tight contest against Mount Clear A as we were both undefeated. Accurate shooting by Eliza with 6 goals and speedy ball movement from Chloe, Monique and Issy through the mid court, resulted in a 7-3 victory.

Ballarat High was our competition in Game Seven. They had won all Eureka Division Year 7 girls netball since 2019, so we knew we were in for a tough game. Amelia and Thea kept the defensive pressure tight all game, while Ele and Eliza kept their composure under pressure in the goal ring and Chloe once again worked tirelessly in centre. An excellent display of teamwork and determination saw Beaufort extend their winning streak, with a final score of 7-4.

In our last game of the day, we came up against Woodmans Hill. Issy shot 6 goals from 7 attempts in the first half, helping to set up a fun filled second half. The team encouraged plenty of super-shot attempts from Eliza, and Summer really started to show more confidence in Wing Defence. An 18-2 win was a fantastic way to finish off an amazing day of netball.

We left the stadium singing along to ‘We are the Champions’ and headed to 7-Eleven for celebratory slurpees.

To go undefeated for the day was a super effort by the girls. They scored 97 goals and only had 18 goals scored against them, which is a testament to the teamwork they displayed across the entire court all day. The encouragement they gave each other, particularly towards Summer, who had never played netball before, was admirable.

The girls qualified to compete at GWR level, which is being held today at Ballarat Netball Association. We wish them all the best.

Thank you to Miss Hughes for all her organisation, which enabled us to compete, Regan for umpiring and Thea’s Mum, Carla, for scoring.

Year 8 Girls Soccer

On Monday the 16th of June, our Year 8 Girls' Soccer Team headed to Wendouree Reserve to compete in the Eureka Division Soccer Tournament. It was an icy cold day and even a run and a solid skills session couldn’t warm us up.

Our first opponent was Phoenix Secondary College. Despite a solid penalty save from Lexi B, and Taylah performing well in attack, we were down 4-0 at half time. With some half-time changes to the line-up, we reduced their scoring ability, keeping them to just two goals in the second half. Phoenix ended up walking away victorious with a 6-0 win.

In the second game we came up against Mount Clear College. Eliza and Maddi dominated through the midfield, as did Amelia, who was running the wings. Thea saved a few goals for us, keeping the half-time score to 2-0 in favour of Mount Clear. At half-time, subs were made and Lexi B was sent into our forward line, while Eleanor, Amelia and Riley made a wall in defence.

Maddi received the ball from the mid-field, dribbling it down, before passing off to Lexi B. Lexi took on the Mount Clear Goalkeeper and came up trumps, scoring our first goal of the day. This was a great boost to our spirits, but sadly we ran out of time, going down to Mount Clear 3-1.

It was a great day, despite the cold. Well done to everyone who participated and thank you to Mr Webb and Miss Hughes for organising and coaching us.

During the last few weeks, we have had several sporting teams compete at the Eureka Divison level.

We also held our House Netball Grand Final on Monday, which saw Wandarra take on Taltarni. Despite a close start, the second half saw shooting duo, Harry and Macey, double Taltarni's score, through the constant efforts of their teammates. Congratulations to Wandarra, who defeated Taltarni 14 to 7.
