Prep D
Addition
This week in Maths, we kicked off our unit on Addition by exploring how numbers combine. Using concrete materials like blocks and counters, the students practiced making two parts and physically joining them together to find the total. They also brought pictures to life by creating their own "number stories" to match pictorial representations. Most importantly, we started mastering the counting on method - counting on from a number, rather than always starting from the beginning. Students are making fantastic progress toward building mathematical efficiency and confidence.
Exploring Australia’s diversity
This week, our Prep students began an exciting new Inquiry unit exploring Australia's diversity. Our first lesson focused on what makes Australia such a unique and diverse country. Students learnt about Australia's native animals, iconic symbols such as lamingtons, Uluru and AFL, and the wide variety of landscapes found across our nation. We also explored similarities and differences between Australia and other countries, helping students recognise that every country has its own unique features, cultures and traditions.
To consolidate their learning, students completed a fun mix-and-match activity, matching Australian icons to their correct names, before decorating the front cover of their Australia Inquiry book. We look forward to continuing our exploration of the people, animals, places and cultures that make Australia such a diverse and special country.
