Premier’s Reading Challenge: Special Assembly This Friday!
We are delighted to welcome Nina Taylor MP, Member for Albert Park, to our whole-school assembly this Friday 23 October at 3pm to celebrate our students’ achievements in the 2026 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
We had a fantastic number of SKiPPS students successfully complete the Challenge this year, demonstrating their enthusiasm for reading and commitment to developing a lifelong love of books.
Nina will be joining us to present these well-earned certificates on behalf of the Premier and congratulate our students on their achievements.
Families are warmly invited to join us at assembly as we celebrate our wonderful readers and recognise their efforts!
Dates to remember:
Friday 30 October - Ride to School Day. Students are encouraged to ride their bikes or scooters to school so they can participate in the bike circuit. Classes with the most active travellers over the month of October will get to enjoy making their own smoothies on our smoothie bike!
- Monday 2nd November - Student Free Day. Melbourne Cup Eve, the day before the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday. If you require supervision for your child, please sign them up at Team Kids for the day.
Thank You to Two Parental Guidance Legends!
Our wonderful SKiPPS parents’ band, Parental Guidance, has become a much-loved part of our school community over the years, bringing fantastic live music, energy and entertainment to so many school events.
As we approach the end of the year, we want to recognise and thank two longstanding members of the band who will be moving on: Sonya Stephen (vocals) and Steve Donald (drums).
Sonya and Steve have made an enormous contribution to Parental Guidance, generously sharing their time and musical talents at countless school fetes, Celebration of the Arts evenings, trivia nights and, of course, the annual Parents Battle of the Bands!
Their enthusiasm, talent and willingness to get involved have helped make so many SKiPPS community events memorable, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have contributed over the years.
A huge thank you to Sonya and Steve! We will miss seeing you perform with Parental Guidance, but the music and memories you've helped create will live on. And, of course, we look forward to seeing the band continue to rock at future SKiPPS events!
Planning for 2027
We are well into the process of planning for next year, creating classes, employing staff and setting budgets for a successful 2027.
As our budget is determined by enrolment numbers, it is vital that we get an accurate picture of how many students we will have at SKiPPS at the start of next year.
If your Foundation - Year 5 child is going to be elsewhere next year, we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible.
Help needed with the chickens
Our five beautiful chickens who live a life of luxury in our amazing chook house (located in the quiet area behind the Kitchen Dining Room) require care throughout term 4. We are looking for some parent volunteers to help spread the workload of looking after them each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
You will be required to check in on the chickens, collect the eggs, top up food and water, remove manure and replace hay. This should take 15 minutes maximum. However, you are welcome to hang out and relax with the chickens if you would like. They do enjoy spending time out of the coop so if you feel comfortable, let them them roam and lock them back up before you leave.
If you think you can help out, please select the available slots and click on the button to sign up for one or more days during term 4. You will be required to sign in at the office and show your working with childrens check if you sign up for Tuesdays and Thursdays and visit during school hours, otherwise you can complete the tasks straight after school.
