Technology for our School

The Armidale Catholic Schools (ACS) Office was busy over the Christmas holidays preparing new devices for distribution across the diocese. This year, ACS is providing every student in Catholic primary and high schools across the Armidale diocese with access to modern digital technology, including iPads, Chromebooks, and MacBooks.

What does this mean for our school? Students in Years 3 to 6 continue to have Chromebooks.

Our Year 2 students now have their own Chromebooks and Kindergarten and Year 1 students have been provided with an iPad each to enhance their learning. Each infants student having their own device is an incredible resource and they are thrilled to explore and grow with their new technology.  Year 1 are already engaging in sessions which include the use of iPads, making learning even more interactive and fun.  Our Kindergarten students are preparing to begin reading groups next term which will include the use of their iPads.

We are incredibly grateful to ACS for their support in equipping our school with these technologies. With a focus on excellence and equity, ACS is ensuring that every student has access to the best learning tools to build a hope-filled future!

Congratulations Mrs Capp

Congratulations to Mrs Kym Capp who has been recognised with a Certificate of Appreciation for her 25 years of dedicated teaching in the Armidale Diocese! Kym started her teaching in the Armidale Diocese at Sacred Heart Boggabri and moved to Narrabri as a classroom teacher. Whilst she has excelled with teaching and learning in the classroom, she has also fulfilled many other roles such as LOP (Maths), a role as a Project Teacher and Diocesan Numeracy Coordinator - she's not just a librarian. Kym is also responsible for coordinating; Eisteddfods, Premier's Reading Challenges, Presentation Day, Bookweek and many other extra curricular activities. Thank you Mrs Capp for all your dedication and commitment to education over the past 25 years.

Term 1 Overview – 2025

Term 1 has seen a fantastic start to the year at St Francis Xavier’s. We welcomed our new principal, Mrs Michelle O’Connor and new staff members - Mrs Karlee Hatton (Assistant Principal), Miss Lucy Suttor (Leader of Pedagogy), classroom teachers - Miss Lucy Geddes and Miss Erica Maslen as well as Education Assistants - Mrs Bec Artis, Miss Hannah Morris, Ms Vanessa Parish and Ms Susan Swansbra. We came together as a school community at the Back to School BBQ hosted by the P&F.

The term began with our Opening School Mass and Year 6 Leadership Induction, followed by Ash Wednesday and Family Masses. Our Kindergarten students have settled in beautifully, enjoying their Book Worm library bags and spending time with their Year 6 Buddies.

Our Living Well, Learning Well Representatives proudly received their badges, attended meetings, and hosted class meetings throughout the term.

Other highlights this term included the St Patrick’s Day fundraiser and dress-up day, Chess Club, Stage 3 Water Wheel projects, InitiaLit Professional Development and a special congratulations to Mrs Capp for 25 years of teaching in the Armidale Diocese. We also celebrated with our Year 2 students as they received the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

We’ve loved welcoming parents to our fortnightly Awards Assemblies and engaging with them during Parent/Teacher Interviews.

In sport, our students shone brightly - participating in the school’s annual Swimming Carnival, with many going on to compete at the ACS Swimming Carnival and even the NSWCPS Swimming Carnival last week. They showed great effort at our Cross Country Carnival, with top six runners 8 years and older competing at the ACS Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday. We also had students represent our school at the NSW PSSA Girls Cricket, the Coal Miner’s Cup and the ACS Winter Trials. Weekly sport sessions with Platform & Co and Netball NSW have kept everyone active and engaged.

With such a strong start to the year we look forward to more learning, growth and fun in Term 2!
