FWPS Food Sharing Policy - Update
Our updated Food Sharing Policy was approved at the most recent school council meeting. Teachers have a duty of care to all students and in completing our most recent risk assessments, families providing food for other students presents a significant risk for our teaching staff to manage, often without notice.
This updated policy comes into effect from the first day of Term Two.
This policy has been updated in response to the following factors:
- the increasing number of students with allergies, intolerances and anaphylactic reactions to food
- religious / cultural observances
- the number of families who have expressed their concern about their children receiving treats (food and non-food) from other families who may have differing values to theirs regarding nutrition or sustainability
- families who have expressed their concerns around inequality ie. treats being provided for some students within a class
Key Points:
- Students across the school are not permitted to share their own food at any time
- Rewards given by staff members will not include food items
- Staff are not able to give out food items, birthday invitations or tokens / gifts provided by families in class
- When special events / curriculum lessons involve food consumption at school, parents / carers will be required to consent via Compass
Please take the time to read this policy (available on our school website), in full -
