Celebrating Eid

As the month of Ramadan comes to an end, the FWPS Parents Association would like to wish our community an Eid Mubarak, which means blessed feast. 

Basbousa is an Egyptian sweet semolina cake, and is a popular addition to many an Eid al-Fitr celebration and we thought the following kid-friendly recipe could be a wonderful way to get everyone to share in the celebrations:

BASBOUSA

Ingredients: 

 2 ½ cups coarse semolina

90 grams desiccated coconut

220 grams caster sugar

75 grams self-raising flour

200 grams thick yoghurt

200 grams unsalted butter (melted)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

30 grams blanched almonds

add milk (if needed)

Syrup

330 grams sugar

250 millilitres water

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon rosewater

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 190°C. Mix the semolina, coconut, sugar, flour, yoghurt, melted butter and vanilla in a bowl. If the mixture seems too thick, add a little milk, but it should still be fairly stiff. Spread the mixture with your hands into a buttered 30 cm x 25 cm x 5 cm baking tray. Cut it into diamond shapes, pressing hard. Place an almond in the centre of each diamond. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, make the syrup. Place the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 5 minutes without stirring. Stir in the lemon juice and rosewater and remove from the heat. Leave to cool. Pour the syrup over the cake while the cake is still hot. Cool to serve.

Easter Raffle

FWPS PA Committee Meeting

We have our second committee meeting of 2025 on Monday and invite members and new faces along. You don't need to be a member to attend a meeting. The meeting will take place 7:00pm-8:00pm, Monday 31st March at the Victoria Hotel.

Mother’s & Special Person’s Day Stall 

We are already preparing for this much loved event to be held in Term 2. There are slots yet to be taken if you are able to assist with sales on the day: Mother's & Special Person's Day Stall 2025 signup sheet (note you have to have a WWCC that is sighted by the office team, and have completed the school's online volunteer induction course to assist).
