Principal Message

Dear Families,
Congratulations on making it to the end of Term 1. Enjoy the break and safe travels if you are on the move!
Cross Country: Monday was meant to be the day! Mr Horbury ordered the most perfect weather for the event, and a great day was had by all down on the beach. Some amazing efforts by our students – some excelled and some challenged themselves and pushed their bodies well out of their comfort zones. Congrats to all, including Mr Horbury, and we wish all the very best to those who have qualified for the District Cross Country next term.
Year 5 Camp: Next term a flurry of information will be distributed for Year 5 families as we prepare to head to Lady Northcote Camp, near Bacchus Marsh. There will be some EXPLICIT expectations set by the staff to ensure we ALL have a safe and enjoyable camp experience. We would appreciate all families reading the documentation when it arrives to be fully informed on various expectations and actions while on camp. As always, respectful and safe behaviours are non-negotiable. And thanks in advance to the parent volunteers coming along this year. We can’t do this without you!
Jenny Peters: A massive thanks to Jenny who has been our Acting BM this term, replacing Lara. Jenny has slotted in so well to OGPS and has continued to build on Lara’s work and has guided us through a massive Apple Fair. We wish Jenny all the best as she heads over to Geelong East PS as their BM.
Term 2 Calendar: We have prepared a Term 2 Calendar (see in newsletter) for families to print off and add to the fridge. We have tried to map out as much as possible, but some things may change and we will try to give as much notice as possible of any changes. We have moved Parent Teacher meetings from end of Term 2 into the beginning of Term 3… More info to come later in Term 2.
Holiday works: The builders will be back onsite finishing ramps, preparing a new switch-back ramp near Year 4 classrooms, the mulch man will be in to service the playground soft fall, and some new synthi-grass will be installed behind the SLC to keep the mud/dust away. Please give the workers their space so they can finish the projects off before we return – hopefully!
ANZAC Day Assembly: Mrs H is busily organising an ANZAC assembly on Friday 24thth at 9.15am in the gym. We invite families to attend this assembly and then join in on ANZAC day with the march down the parade to the Ocean Grove Park where some of our student leaders will be involved in proceedings. Mrs Doods will be the contact person for the march. Thanks in advance.
Girls Footy: Mrs H and I were fortunate to see the girls’ footy team in action this morning. Mr Horbury was trying his best to coach them as Mrs H distracted them for a photo! We look forward to hearing how the day went when they return to school.
Year 6 2026 Surfboard: Each year, our Year 6 students are invited to showcase their creativity by submitting a custom surfboard design that reflects our school and the wider community. We received many impressive entries this year, and we are pumped to announce that the winning design was created by Ted S! Well done Ted!
House colour tops: Congratulations to our Barna – Karreek Spiders, taking the win for having the highest house colour top count for Term 1. Reminder students are encouraged to wear their house colour top each Wednesday. Well done spiders!
End of Term: Thursday – 2:30pm class dismissal. Please make appropriate arrangements for your children to be collected or supervised. See you all back on deck Monday 20th April from 8.45am for a 9am start in class.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Term 2.
