Social & Emotional Learning

Battling the winter blues?
Winter can affect anyone’s mood, motivation, energy and social connection. Here are some small, achievable habits you can develop to help support your mental health.
Sticky Note Challenge
Leave sticky notes around the house, at your workplace or on friends' lockers, letting them know how much you appreciate them and why.
Rather than a long gratitude journal, record:
- One thing that made you smile today
- One person you appreciated
- One thing you are looking forward to
Great winter activities you could do:
- Bake biscuits
- Have a board game night
- Watch a favourite movie
- Build a blanket fort
- Read a new book
- Walk in the rain (with a coat and umbrella!)
Swap 20 minutes of screen time for:
- Reading
- Drawing
- Music
- Walking
- Lego
- Cooking
- Playing with a pet
As a family, compile a Winter Joy List and try to do three activities each week. Some examples may include:
- Hot Chocolate
- Listening to music
- Reading
- Baking
- Warm blankets
- Playing with pets
- Watching the sunrise
- Calling a grandparent
