School News and Information

STAGE 1 Class News
Welcome to Week 5, Term Three!
It has been a busy and exciting term in the Magpie and Possum classrooms! We have enjoyed our Thalgarrah excursion, celebrated the fun of Book Week, and have been very busy with our learning. A highlight this term has been exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs. The students have loved researching different dinosaurs, discovering interesting facts and gathering information that they will proudly present to the class.
English
This term in English, the Magpies and Possums have been having lots of fun learning through our dinosaur theme!
During Weeks 1–5, we have been reading both fiction and non-fiction books. Students have enjoyed discovering interesting dinosaur facts and learning the difference between fact and fiction. They have each researched a dinosaur, gathered interesting information and are using their research to create their very own dinosaur information report, which they will share with the class.
During Weeks 6–10, we will move into persuasive writing. Students will learn how to share their opinion, give convincing reasons and use persuasive language to persuade their reader. To make this learning fun, the students will take on a very important challenge – convincing Mrs Deiderick that we should have a dinosaur at our school! We are looking forward to hearing all the creative and convincing reasons they come up with!
Maths
This term in Maths, the Magpies and Possums have been very busy building their number skills. Students have been learning about place value and how to break larger numbers into hundreds, tens and ones to make them easier to work with. We have also been practising estimating and counting larger groups of objects, using groups of ten to help us count more efficiently.
Students have then used their place value knowledge to help them solve addition and subtraction problems. We have also been working on our Friends of 20, helping students quickly recall pairs of numbers that add to 20. Lots of hands-on activities and games have helped us practise these skills and build confidence with numbers.
HSIE
This term in Science, the Magpies and Possums have been exploring the amazing world of dinosaurs and prehistoric Earth. Students have been learning how scientists use fossils and other evidence to discover what dinosaurs were like and how they lived.
We have explored the different body features of dinosaurs and how these helped them survive in their environments. Students have also been learning about how the Earth has changed over time, how these changes can affect living things, and what may have happened to the dinosaurs. We have introduced the word extinct and discussed what it means when a living thing no longer exists anywhere on Earth.
Book Week
Book Week was a wonderful celebration, and we were so proud to see all the children getting into character and enjoying the fun of dressing up. It was also lovely to welcome our families into the classrooms and give parents the opportunity to see and celebrate all the fantastic learning and hard work the children have been doing.
We still have lots of exciting things to look forward to this term! Science Week begins on Wednesday, with students from ASC visiting to lead a special lesson for our Year 1 students. Next week, we also have some fantastic hands-on Science activities planned for the children to enjoy.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or anything you would like to discuss.
