Principal's Update

It has been another busy and exciting couple of weeks at Kangaroo Flat Primary School, with our students continuing to embrace a wide range of learning opportunities, experiences and activities.

Our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students had a wonderful time on their Doxa Camp experience in Melbourne. Speaking with the students afterwards, many described highlights including visiting the Old Melbourne Gaol, exploring the Aquarium and, of course, attending the football. If you were watching the Kangaroos and Bulldogs game on television, you may even have spotted Mr Hansen and some of our students cheering on the Kangaroos! It was fantastic to see our students enjoying new experiences, challenging themselves and creating wonderful memories with their friends. A sincere thank you to the staff who gave up their time to attend camp and make these experiences possible.

Last week, we conducted a practice lockdown drill, with students being called into classrooms from playtime. This provided us with a realistic scenario to practise the procedures we would need to follow should an emergency situation ever arise. Our students followed the procedures calmly and responsibly and demonstrated how safely they can respond. Everyone was accounted for in record time, which was an excellent result. We were also pleased to have representatives from the Department of Education's OHS team observe the drill as part of their own learning. They were impressed with the processes and procedures we have in place at Kangaroo Flat Primary School. These practice drills are an important part of keeping our school community safe.

On Tuesday this week, our Grade 6 students presented their Wakakirri performance, which conveyed a story about the positive influence coaches can have in our lives. Led by Ms Dellow, the performance was an excellent showcase of our students' talents and demonstrated wonderful skills, choreography and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of all of our Grade 6 students and the commitment they have shown throughout the preparation and performance. The video footage of the performance will now be submitted as our online entry into the Wakakirri competition. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along after school to watch the performance. The students were so excited to see you there and to have the opportunity to share something they have been working so hard on.

It continues to be a busy time of year for our Grade 6 students, who are also participating in the Passions and Pathways program. This program provides students with opportunities to learn about the many career options available to them later in life and encourages them to begin thinking about the pathways they may like to pursue throughout secondary school and beyond. It is wonderful to see our students beginning to consider their interests, strengths and aspirations for the future.

We are looking forward to seeing the wonderful costumes at assembly tomorrow for our Book Parade. We encourage all families to come along and enjoy the parade and celebrate our students' love of reading.

Next week will be another busy one at KFPS. Our Grade 3 students will be heading off to Scienceworks, while our Grade 2 students will take part in their exciting sleepover experience. We will also welcome approximately 120 kindergarten students to our school for a school experience. The following week, our Grade 4 students will be heading to Melbourne Museum. 

On Friday 4 September, we invite all fathers and special people to join their child for breakfast before school. Breakfast will be served from 8.15 am in the amphitheatre as we celebrate Father's Day together. On the same day, students will also have the opportunity to visit the Father's Day Stall, organised by our wonderful Parents and Friends group. A big thank you to everyone who volunteers their time to organise and run the stall. Children can bring a maximum of $10 to spend at the Father's Day Stall. 

We encourage families to use cash, however, if you need to pay by card, please attend the office by the end of the day on Thursday 3 September to make your payment.

Finally, it has been lovely to see so many families making use of the junior playground after school, taking the opportunity to communicate and touch base with one another while their children play. Unfortunately, we have had several injuries and incidents occur when children have not been actively supervised. If you are staying at school after the end of the school day, please ensure that you are actively supervising your children at all times. This helps us ensure that the playground remains a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.
