Hello again everyone, 

This term is probably one of my favourites with Book Week coming up in Week 7 (24th - 28th of August)! I know I am very excited to be helping Miss Waldron plan and prepare for Book Week this year and helping merge this year’s theme into our school. 

Children’s Book Week 2026:

The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) created Children’s Book Week way back in 1945 but there has been a national theme to the famous week since 1987. Every year, new books by Australian authors or illustrators are shortlisted to win a number of categories in order to promote Australian authorship, publishing and illustrations and encourage more reading amongst our children. This year’s theme is all about a “Symphony of Stories”.

The artwork for the new theme is usually done by the previous year’s illustrator for the winning book in the Picture Book of the Year category. This year our illustrator is Briony Stewart who is known for “Gymnastica Fantastica!”, “We love you, Magoo”, “These Little Feet”, and many more books! Briony Stewart wants us as readers to think about “What would books sound like if we could hear them?”. She shows us what that might look like if all of the characters jumped out of their books and started creating music together. Loud, colourful and imaginative! Because just like a symphony, books are just many different pieces that come together to create a story. 

As we lead up to Book Week, I’ll be posting more about the individual categories on Class Dojo and some potential inspiration but right now is the perfect time to order any supplies you may need to create your children’s costumes! Our Dress Up Day will be on Friday the 28th but I will confirm the time of the parade closer to the day and create a Class Dojo calendar event for it. 

Scholastic Book Club: 

Issue #5 has closed and orders for that issue should arrive in the next two weeks. Issue #6 should arrive around Week 6 of term (17th-21st). 

Reminders about borrowing schedules:

Just a quick reminder that for Prep and Year 1 students, books need to be returned weekly so that your child can get a new book every week and for Years 2-6, children need to bring their books back every fortnight. Double check with your children when you get the Library Day event reminder from Class Dojo that their book/s are in their bag ready to go. If your children would like their books for more time, that is fine but it will only be for another loan period of 1 or 2 weeks.
