Mental Health Awareness

October is Mental Health Awareness Month in Australia. This month encourages us to think about our mental health and wellbeing, and gives the opportunity to understand the importance of good mental health in our everyday lives.

This year’s theme is “Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey” and is all about celebrating steps that we can take towards improving our mental health and wellbeing. The theme promotes embracing progress, growth and ongoing reflection. The theme this year also encourages help-seeking behaviours and creating an environment where people feel ok to ask for help and know it will be met with understanding and empathy.

Take some time to reflect on what steps you already take to help you with your mental health and wellbeing and what you can do to continue to move forward.

We encourage you to speak to your children about what are some strategies they like to use when they are feeling overwhelmed or unmotivated. Find out who they know they can go to when they need help in different situations.

Please see below some ways that you and your child can manage feeling stressed and overwhelmed or visit https://wayahead.org.au/mentalhealthmonth/about-us/ to access more information and resources.

Let’s keep looking after our wellbeing and support each other to do the same!
