Principal Update

Shane Wilkie

Welcome to week 8. I hope families were able to spend some time relaxing or getting away over the King’s Birthday long weekend.

Congratulations to Luke Kleinig, who has been appointed to the substantive Assistant Principal role at Alphington Primary School commencing from Term 3 2026. Luke has been acting in the position for Semester 1 and 2 and the recruitment panel were very impressed by his application and interview. I am delighted to inform the community that Luke has accepted the position under the provisional terms of the recruitment process.

Excursion and Incursion Levy REMINDER - DUE NOW

As we reach the end of Term 2, all year levels have participated in excursions and incursions, with several additional extracurricular events still to come throughout the year.

Incursions and excursions are additional user-pays experiences that complement and enrich the Victorian Curriculum program provided to all students. These opportunities allow students to engage in authentic, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom and are planned and costed through the annual Incursion/Excursion Levy.

  • For 2026, the levy is $180 per student

To ensure your child can continue to participate in these planned activities and experiences, we ask families to please finalise payment of the levy as soon as possible.

From semester two any student who has not made payment may be unable to participate in extracurricular activities. We will be sending personal emails to families prior to the end of term 2 to ensure all students are offered the opportunity to participate in extracurricular events in semester two.

Payments can be made:

  • via the Compass Pay facility
  • over the phone through the school office
  • in person at the office.
  • Furthermore, families with remaining school saving bonus can utilise these funds for the incursion/excursion levy - please contact Liliana to make arrangements.

We understand that circumstances can vary for families, and payment plans are available. Families requiring support are encouraged to contact the school office to discuss suitable arrangements.

Report Cards

Semester One Reports will be published via Compass on Friday 19 June. An electronic copy of your child’s report will be available for you to view online now and download as required from Compass. If you wish to receive a hard copy of the report, please contact your child’s class teacher. The reporting on students’ achievements for the semester is an important part of the assessment process and each child’s individual journey. We recommend families sharing the report with their child.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

This semester, due to the recent AEU work bans, and following advice from the Department of Education, reports will only contain numerical values showing students’ achievement against the standard using a progression point. While reports will not contain any written comments linked to content descriptions or achievement standards, teachers have taught, assessed and moderated all students learning against the Victorian Curriculum.

2026 Year 2-6 Concert Changes

Our 2026 Year 2-6 Concert will be held on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 September. For 2026 we have 275 students in Years 2-6 participating in the concert. Due to seating and capacity changes to the Ivanhoe Girls Performing Arts Centre, we have decided to hold the concert over two nights. We undertook a search for an appropriate venue to ensure we could have a minimum of 2 family members attend but were unable to find an appropriate alternative. As a result, we will perform over two nights at the Ivanhoe Girls Grammar Performing Arts Centre. Year 6 students will perform on both nights with Monday night being supported by Year 2 and Year 4 and Tuesday night supported by Year 3 and Year 5.

Term 3 Planning

Our staff meetings and team planning time for week 10 is dedicated to the planning and preparation of Term 3. During this time teams are meeting to develop their term unit planners for English, Mathematics, STEAM and Wellbeing. In Term 3 our school wide STEAM focus is exploring the Human Arts or Humanities of History and Geography. Students will learn about a places and periods from our past and investigate the impacts events from these times had upon the people, culture and wider society. From this, students will develop a range of skills to compare, contrast, evaluate, and analyse how learning about history can be applied to our lives today.

2027 Enrolments

We have just two more 2027 Prep enrolment tours left for the year – June 12 and June 19. The administration team have begun the early 2027 class planning process, so if you know of any 2027 Prep students looking to enrol at Alphington – either siblings or new enrolments, please contact the office to submit an enrolment form as soon as possible.

Have a great week!!
