School Council Update
New Outdoor Screens
Two 55” outdoor-rated TVs will soon be installed under the covered area and near the Platypus building pathway, providing families with daily information similar to what’s displayed in our office reception.
Finance Report
Rising costs for programs such as Spelling Mastery (Grades 2–6) can no longer be fully absorbed by the school. With voluntary contributions currently below 70%, Council will explore clearer messaging, part-payment options, and incentives to improve return rates.
Trivia Night Success
A fantastic result - at least $15,000 profit, with a possible further $2,000 once final costs are confirmed. Congratulations and thanks to the parent committee and Parent Association for their incredible work.
Facilities Update
Council discussed FWPS’s in-principle agreement with Maribyrnong Council for community access to our oval outside school hours. Parents and carers are welcome to contact me with any questions - catch me in the yard, call, or email. Our Big Build remains on track for the start of next year. Assistant Principal, Carolyn Lockie recently toured the site and was very impressed with the progress. At last week’s assembly, it was announced that students voted to name our new space the Eagle Building—this recommendation has now been communicated to the project lead for forwarding to the Minister of Education’s office.
General Business
The Grade 5 Kangaroobie Camp documentation was approved. Many thanks to Tim Cannan for his thorough preparation.
Attitudes to School Survey
Carolyn presented a detailed analysis of the survey completed by Grades 4–6 in Term 2. While the data highlights both strengths and areas for improvement, focus groups have already been held to explore trends further.
Acknowledgements
School Council formally recognised the outstanding work of Library Teacher Shannon Mason this term in leading Science Week, Book Week, Wear It Purple Day, and the Book Fair. A letter of thanks will be sent.
