Our First Nations students in Stage 4 recently had the opportunity to head On Country at the Australian Botanic Gardens and take part in a poetry workshop run by the team from Red Room Poetry. Seeing our students connect with Elders and sensational First Nations role models from Red Room and the Gardens was really special, with learning taking place that was so much deeper than just the writing of poetry. ... scroll down to see our poetry
Highlights for the day included a walk to the top of the mountain, working in Dharawal language and seeing our students confidence grow throughout the day. A definite goosebump moment was watching Alexis stand side by side with Elder and Dharawal language expert Jo Tanginoa, surrounded by gums and the occasional birdsong overhead, reading her poetry together for the group in English and in Dharawal language.
