  • Year 12 Extension 1 & 2: Written Test in week 5 Term 3

Parents and carers are encouraged to refer to the Assessment Booklet provided at the beginning of the year to stay informed about your child’s upcoming assessments.

Students are encouraged to record these due dates in their planners as well. This proactive approach will help minimise stress and last-minute rushes as the term progresses.

We would like to wish all our students the best as they approach their exams and assessment tasks. Keep working hard and seek your teachers' assistance for support. Make the effort to adopt healthy study habits and look after yourselves during this busy time.

Students are reminded that a calculator will be an essential tool for their learning in maths and completion of their assessment tasks. Please ensure that you have a calculator and are bringing it to class with you for each maths lesson. Calculators can conveniently be purchased from the school office, so don’t hesitate to get what you need to support your learning journey.

Students are also reminded of the importance of having a workbook, pencils and pens and bringing these to each and every lesson. Please ensure that you have these items and are bringing them to class every day in term 3.

Maths Movie Recommendation: “21”

"21" is a 2008 film based on the true story of MIT students who use advanced card-counting techniques to win big at blackjack in Las Vegas casinos. The movie follows a group led by a brilliant but unconventional professor who teaches them to use theirmathematical skills to gain an edge in the game. Through their journey, the students experience the thrill of high-stakes gambling and the challenges of keeping their activities secret.

For high school maths students, "21" illustrates several important concepts. It demonstrates the practical application of probability and statistics in real-world scenarios, highlighting how mathematical strategies can influence outcomes in games of chance. The film also emphasises the power of teamwork and strategic thinking, showing how combining individual skills and knowledge can lead to success. Additionally, it provides insight into the ethical considerations and potential consequences of using mathematical techniques in unconventional ways. Overall, "21" can inspire students to explore the fascinating applications of maths beyond the classroom and appreciate its impact on decision-making and problem-solving.

TASC (also known as Homework Club)

Just a friendly reminder that TASC is held on Thursday afternoons from 2:00 to 3:00. If you find yourself in need of additional assistance with your mathematics coursework outside of regular class hours, this is the perfect opportunity to get the support you need.
