Positive Classroom Management Strategies
Throughout the term, we will focus on positive behaviour support through the lens of the Positive Classroom Management Strategies, which are aligned with the HPS Norms and Behaviour Expectations.
Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
Our Term 4 RRRR focus is Positive Coping (Topic 3). We will support students to develop positive coping skills through our Wellbeing curriculum, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships. This topic helps students learn a range of positive coping skills. Developing and practising these strategies will support emotional regulation, and enable students to manage changes and challenges more effectively. Research about resilience shows that use of positive self-talk is associated with greater persistence in the face of challenge, whereas negative self-talk is associated with higher levels of distress, depression and anxiety (RRRR).
During wellbeing lessons students will
• reflect on their emotional responses
• describe ways to express emotions that show awareness of the feelings and needs of others
• practise techniques to deal with feelings of fear, frustration and anger.
Transition to Grade 3
As we look towards the end of the year, we begin preparing students for their transition to Grade 3. It is important to acknowledge that students can experience complicated emotions during this time, including fear and anxiety around changes to their environment, routine and the people around them.
As we prepare students for this change, it might be helpful to have conversations with your child at home and unpack any emotions they may be feeling about this. It might also be beneficial to prompt students to reflect on and identify positive relationships they have experienced throughout the year, as students will have an opportunity later in the term to nominate five friends who they would like to share a class with in 2026.
Other Wellbeing Initiatives:
- Students will continue to have brain breaks and brain boosts weaved into lessons to support their engagement throughout the day.
- We will continue recognising students following HPS expected behaviours with the Hampton Hero peg on their school bag. Hampton Heroes will also be celebrated at the weekly Assemblies.
- Students are also being exposed to HPS’ School-Wide Expectations document to attain a consistent understanding of the expectations across the whole school.
