Supporting Wellbeing during NAPLAN

Dear Families,

Over the coming weeks and for this week at CCK, students across Australia will participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN provides a snapshot of how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy at a particular point in time. It is one small part of a much bigger picture of each child’s learning, growth and many strengths.

It is normal for some children to feel a little nervous before a test. A small amount of nervousness can actually help students stay focused and do their best. At school, we support students by keeping routines calm and familiar, reminding them that effort is what matters most, and encouraging them to simply try their best.

How parents can support at home:

  • Keep conversations about NAPLAN relaxed and positive.

  • Reassure your child that the tests are just one way teachers gather information about learning.

  • Ensure children get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast.

  • Encourage regular routines before school to help the morning feel calm and predictable.

Strategies to help children manage worry or stay regulated:

  • Take a few slow, deep breaths if feeling nervous.

  • Use positive self-talk such as “I can try my best.”

  • Have a short movement break, stretch or walk before school.

  • Focus on one question at a time rather than thinking about the whole test.

Most importantly, children should know that they are valued for who they are, not just for what they score on a test. Their kindness, creativity, persistence and unique strengths matter every day in our learning community.

We are so proud of our Grade 3's and Grade 5's as they continue to sit NAPLAN this week.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

The weekly PBL rule is drawn from our Behaviour Matrix. Each week our children focus on a whole school rule that meets our five school expectations

            This week’s PBL focus is:

                    We are SAFE

                         (Online)

We are learning to keep our personal information private and only talk topeople we know.
