Good Afternoon Parents Students, Staff and Friends of Derinya,

As we move further into Term 3, our school continues to buzz with energy, learning and exciting opportunities. It has been wonderful to see our students embracing new experiences both inside and outside the classroom while demonstrating our school values each day. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support and partnership, it truly makes a difference in helping our students thrive.

Parent teacher interviews and proposed industrial action

I would like to advise families of a change to our Parent Teacher Interview schedule. Due to proposed industrial action on Wednesday 19th August, we have made the decision to move our interviews forward to Tuesday 18th August. We appreciate your understanding as we work to minimise disruption for our families while supporting our staff during this time. Interview bookings are now live and any updates about the proposed industrial action will be communicated as they become available.

Recent Excursions

Our students have enjoyed some fantastic learning experiences beyond the classroom over the past fortnight. Our Year 2 students stepped back in time during their excursion to Coal Creek Community Park and Museum, where they explored life in the past through hands-on activities and historical displays. Year 1 students delighted in their visit to Moonlit Sanctuary, learning about Australia's unique native wildlife and the importance of conservation. Our Year 6 students were also fortunate to attend the matinee performance of Mary Poppins presented by Frankston High School, enjoying an outstanding production that showcased the incredible talents of the secondary students and inspired many aspiring performers.

Upcoming events

There is plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks. Our talented students are working hard in preparation for our Junior Production, and we can't wait to share their performances with our school community. Be sure to keep an eye out for further details about performance times. We are also looking forward to our end of term disco, always a much-anticipated event that gives students the opportunity to celebrate a successful term together in a fun and safe environment.

Japanese delegations

This week we farewell our visiting delegation from Susono and thank them for the wonderful connections and friendships they have shared with our school community. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting them and learning more about their culture. At the same time, we are excited to welcome our friends from Shukutoku, and we look forward to another enriching cultural exchange that strengthens the international partnerships our school values so highly.

Finally, a reminder that Book Week is just around the corner! We will be celebrating on Friday 28th August, with students encouraged to dress as their favourite book character as we celebrate the joy of reading and the wonderful world of books. We look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm of our students on what is always one of the highlights of the school year.

Thank you once again for your continued support. We look forward to sharing these exciting events with you over the coming weeks and celebrating another successful term together.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead,

Nadine Pye on behalf of the Derinya family.
