THE JAPANESE WORD OF THE FORTNIGHT

さいこうです(pronounced ‘saikoh des’) which means ‘awesome’, is the Japanese Word for the last week of Term 2 and Week 1 of Term 3. You can simply use ‘さいこうです’ (‘saikoh des’) instead of ‘awesome’ when you feel awesome or see something awesome.

Thank you / ありがとうございます(pronounced ‘aligatoh gozaimas’) for your continuing support for our Japanese program.

NEW INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM STARTING TERM 3

We're excited to announce that Valkstone Primary School will be launching an instrumental music program in Term 3 with "Instrumental as Anything" led by Simon Lindsay.

Meet Simon Lindsay

Simon has been teaching music across Melbourne schools since 2002. A trumpet player since childhood, he became Concert Band leader at Blackburn High School and now teaches guitar, trumpet, and ukulele at several bayside schools.

What Makes This Program Special?

Quality Teaching: Our instructors include university-level specialists, music coordinators, Melbourne rock musicians, and artists from the Melbourne International Jazz Festival's Take Note program.

Performance Opportunities: Students will perform at Soirées (in-house performance nights), concerts, and assemblies throughout the year.

Family Partnership: Parents receive regular progress updates, annual reports, and invitations to all performance events.

Flexible Scheduling: Lessons work around classroom timetables with dedicated spaces and well-maintained instruments.

Next Steps

Expression of Interest forms have been sent to all families via Compass.

Why Music Matters

This program offers students lifelong musical skills while developing discipline, confidence, teamwork, and self-expression - qualities that benefit all areas of learning and personal development.

Whether your child is a complete beginner or has musical experience, there will be opportunities for growth, creativity, and joy through music.

We can't wait to hear music filling our corridors and see our students shine on stage!
