Year 3/4 News

What a busy and exciting few weeks it has been in Year 3/4! We've been diving into a range of interesting topics and developing some fantastic skills across all our learning areas. Here's a little peek at what we've been up to:

Sporting Success on the Horizon!

Get ready to cheer! Year 3/4 have been putting in some serious effort preparing for our upcoming Athletics Carnival in Term 2. The oval has been buzzing with energy as we've been honing our skills in sprinting, perfecting our leaps in long jump, and getting to grips with the discus and shot put. Thank you Mrs Harrison and Mrs Rizzi for teaching us the correct techniques in both discus and shot put. We've seen some impressive throws and speedy sprints, and we can't wait to see everyone showcase their talents on the big day.

Maths Mania: Adding Up the Fun!

In Maths, our focus has been on Addition. We've moved beyond simply adding numbers and have been exploring a variety of different strategies to solve addition questions. From using number lines and partitioning to mental strategies and written algorithms, the students have been demonstrating a great understanding of how to efficiently and accurately add numbers. It's been fantastic to see everyone finding the methods that work best for them.

Reflecting on Lent and Holy Week

Our Religion lessons have taken us on a reflective journey through Lent. We have been learning about the significance of this important time. Currently, we are focusing on the Stations of the Cross, carefully considering the events that took place during Holy Week. Through stories and discussions, we are gaining a deeper understanding of the final days of Jesus' life and their meaning.

English Explorers: Journeying Through Space!

Our English lessons have been out of this world! We've been reading some truly interesting books about Space, sparking our curiosity and expanding our knowledge of planets and the Solar System. To help us digest all the fascinating information, we've been practicing the important skill of note-taking. The students have done a great job of identifying key facts and then using these notes to create their own informative posters and hybrid texts

Science and Technology with Mrs Hoy

In Stage 2  the Living World strand focuses on classifying living and non-living and the survival of living things. To reinforce this survival, we participated in an experiment that demonstrated seed dispersal to show how plants germinate naturally. We have been following the Success Criteria of:

  • I can discuss the reasons that make something living or non-living.
  • I can sort animals into groups based on what they look like and finding similarities.
  • I can use my knowledge to identify characteristics and observable features.
  • I can follow procedures, make predictions and draw conclusions. I can determine the effect wind has on the dispersal of seeds.

In Term 2, we will focus on Material World, investigating how solids and liquids change state and the properties of natural and processed materials.

Have a safe and restful holiday and we look forward to all the learning that will take place in Term 2!
