Homework Update

At GEPS, we acknowledge that students, staff, parents and community members all have different views about homework. Most researchers conclude that, for primary students, there is no evidence that homework lifts academic performance (Cooper, 1989, Walker 2011).
The research is clear, however, that reading each day, does impact on a child's reading development, vocabulary and success at school.
Our homework policy tries to cater for all views - with no set structure of homework "tasks" each night but rather a focus on reading and practising activities that are mentioned in the Learning Overviews twice a term.
