Chinese cultural week
During this week's Mandarin lesson, students took part in a dumpling- making activity. The children had lots of fun preparing their dumplings before enjoying the delicious results! They were certainly a hit, the children came back into class saying “I wish I could eat them all day!”
Anti bullying week
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, our Prep students explored the importance of kindness and how our words and actions can make others feel. We talked about the idea of “fill a bucket with kindness” by using kind words, including others, helping friends and showing care and respect. Students discussed ways they can be bucket fillers each day and how even small acts of kindness can make someone’s day brighter. It was so lovely to see the children thinking about how they can make our classrooms a happy, safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Integrated
The students are very excited to visit the zoo next week. To prepare for our visit, the students have begun learning about animal habitats and what animals need to survive. We have been discussing how different animals live in different environments and how they rely on food, water, shelter to keep them safe. The children have enjoyed sharing their ideas about where animals live and what they might see at the zoo. We can't wait to see their excitement and curiosity come to life during our visit!
Literacy
The students are developing a range of strategies to help them become confident readers. We use Chunky Monkey to break tricky words into smaller chunks, Tryin’ Lion to encourage us to have a go and try different strategies, and Eagle Eye to look carefully at the pictures and use clues to help work out unfamiliar words. These strategies are helping our young readers become more independent. It has been wonderful to see the children become more willing to tackle unfamiliar words.
We have also been reading lots of amazing books in preparation for Book Week. The children have loved exploring new stories and sharing their favourite books.
