Achieving Excellence Together

Dear Families,
Two weeks into Term 2 already - the school holiday break feels like a distant memory as we all have settled back into the routine of school so quickly. Term 2 is always an action packed one, but I'm sure you'll agree when you look at the Important Dates coming up, this one seems extra eventful.
Our 5/6s had two days back at school before jumping on the bus for the 5/6 camp at Lyrebird Park in the Dandenongs. This was the first school camp for this cohort of students and to be honest we couldn't tell who was more nervous - the students or the parents! It is safe to say the 70 students and seven staff members had the most amazing time. The feedback I've heard so far is that the flying fox and high ropes course were big winners. We've even heard from parents that some cooking skills learnt at camp have been shown off at home as well.
Week 2 of school wasn't going to be outdone by camp, with our third annual Albanvale Athletics Carnival. I think everyone knows by now how much we all love this event. As usual, it was fantastic to see so many families with their camp chairs and picnic blankets at the Keilor Little Athletics Track to support the kids (the best turn out yet). Between the running, jumping, throwing, dancing and cheering we had some very weary athletes on the buses home - but the smiles on faces were the real demonstration of the success of the day. Once again the students from Victoria University Secondary College assisted with the running of the events. Thanks must go to Daniel Suarez for the effort and planning put into the event, and whatever special powers he used to make the weather perfect on the day.
Prep 2027 - Preparing our Little Learners
Prep enrolments for next year are open, and we are so happy to see Albanvale PS is a school of choice within our community. We have already received applications for over 50% of our planned places. Our school readiness program started this week and it's been exciting to meet with our Little Learners. Our excellent educators run the program for those pre-enrolled for Albanvale next year to help get them ready for school, as well as give them a head start with their literacy and numeracy. These sessions run for one hour weekly through out the school term and are completely free. If you have a child due to start Prep next year (or know someone who does) I strongly encourage you to pre-enrol as soon as possible so they can experience the fun of Little Learners.
Achieve Excellence, Together.
