Years 5 & 6

A Big Start to the Year in 5/6!

The start of the year has been full of excitement and learning for our Year 5 and 6 students!  All students have settled in well to the Senior School, working hard as role models to consistently demonstrate our school values. Across the Senior School, the focus has been on taking responsibility for learning, challenging ourselves within lessons, and setting ourselves up for success.

In the classroom, students have been engaging in a range of learning experiences. Both Year 5’s and 6’s participated in our MITTY program focusing on health education. It was fantastic to see such high levels of engagement and discussion from all students. In English, students have been reading and discussing the text The Night They Stormed Eureka, learning about the events of the Eureka Stockade and life on the Ballarat goldfields during the 1850s. In Maths, students have been building their skills in multiplication, statistics, shapes, and angles.

Year 5

We are incredibly proud of our Year 5’s, who recently completed their NAPLAN assessments, demonstrating perseverance, effort, and our school values throughout. Meanwhile, the Year 5 Buddy Program has begun, with our Year 5 students spending time getting to know the Preps. We are excited to see our Year 5’s develop their responsibility and continue to provide them with opportunities to further support our prep students throughout the year.

Year 6

In Week 4, our Year 6s attended City Camp, exploring a variety of fascinating places around Melbourne with some of the highlights being Scienceworks and the Queen Victoria Market.  Students consistently demonstrated our school values while out in public, practicing independence and teamwork as they navigated public transport and managed themselves throughout each day.

Our student leaders have been developing their leadership skills by connecting with other year levels and gaining confidence when facilitating assemblies. A selection of Year 6’s have also had the opportunity to work on passion projects, developing their research skills and presenting their findings to their peers with enthusiasm and creativity.

It’s been a fantastic start to the year, and we can’t wait to see all the learning, leadership, and achievements that 5/6 students will continue to accomplish in the terms ahead!
