A word from our School Captains
by Quinn Mac Cartney, Ishita Aggarwal and Paul Koutsivos, Cohort 2025
Hello! We're your School Captains for this year; Ishita (Excellence), Quinn (Inclusion) and Paul (Community).
We've already had such an amazing Term 1, and Term 2 has seen some great highlights. At the start of the term, we had our annual Athletics Carnival at the Coburg Harold Stevens Athletics Track, where heaps of people dressed up in their house colours and competed for glory in all the different sports available. It was a close one, but ultimately Acacia clinched the win with the most house points racked up from student participation. Congrats Acacia!
Besides Sport, PHS's Senior Company 2025 put on a stunning show in our very own C04 theatre of the play, Exiles. A deeply reflective and emotional piece, all the performers showed talent and dedication far beyond their years, and it was incredible to watch. Term 2 also saw rehearsals kick off in earnest for our Junior Play for 2025, Fight With All Your Might the Zombies of Tonight (A bit of a mouthful!!). The students are racing through with so much passion and skill, watch out for tickets in Term 3 for the T3 Week 7-8 performances.
In other areas of the school, our debating teams faced off a number of other schools early this term for Round 2 of DAV Debating. Our C grade team of Jackie S, Liam C, Ruby S and Felix G had an amazing result, currently sitting undefeated at the top of the ladder! Preston High also celebrated IDAHOBIT day this term, with a number of fun activities to encourage showing your pride, and standing up as allies against homophobia and transphobia.
Throughout this year, the School Captains and School Leadership team have been looking at the way our school raises funds for charities and social causes. Preston High can really make an impact on issues the students and our wider school community care about, and so we have decided on a number of changes to ensure that this potential is met. This year, all fundraising events will raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity that provides books and education to remote Indigenous Australian communities. In addition, if students come in casual clothes for a fundraising casual clothes day, they can make a donation through the Compass portal instead of with cash.
On a more personal note for us, Cohort 2025 had our Year 12 Formal at The Sovereign mid-way through this term. It was an amazing night surrounded by all our friends, and of course absolutely tearing up that dance floor! Everyone looked amazing, and we're sure Cohort 2025 made memories we're all going to cherish forever.
There's so much coming up this term and next, make sure to get involved and keep up to date with all the happenings on Teams and Compass!
Sports report
by Molly Mattucci, Cohort 2028, Acacia House
Early in the term we had our annual athletics carnival which is always a huge success. We had many people from every year level compete in different events. Lots of people had incredible costumes and the day was overall a huge success. We hope everyone does well at regionals! Many students are also preparing for term 2 inter-school-sports. Students are excited to perform in many sports like AFL, netball, soccer, badminton and a few others. We also had many students compete at cross country. We are all very excited to see how far these athletes can go! Good luck to all the students, we hope you go all the way.
House Captains report
by Tavish Colegrave, Cohort 2027 Gecko House
Term 2 2025 was a great term for House Events. We had the opportunity to participate in the Athletics carnival in Week 2, which ended in a close win for the Acacia house, with Marbled Geckos in second, the Sugar Gliders in third, and Tawny Frogmouths in fourth place. Throughout the day, we had record numbers of participation, lots of fun novelty events, and many fun House-based costumes.
Later in the term we’ll have the House Talent Show assembly. This is a long-standing Preston High tradition and a fun chance for anyone and everyone to show off their unique talents. Hopefully we can get many talented people to sign up and make this year’s Talent Show the best one yet!
Thanks for a great Term 2, and remember to look out for more House challenges and events coming up soon!
