Dear Parents,

Term 3 is now in full swing where school events seem to be happening almost everyday, we are sorry if you are getting too many Compass Notifications, but too much information is better than not enough.

You may have heard through the media that the next AEU strike action day has been listed as Wednesday 19th. I am hoping that with a new education minister the situation will hopefully be resolved by then. 

THE INCREDIBLE JESS RILEY

Our wonderful grade 2 teacher Jess Riley is about to be on the Voice, we think on Tuesday next week.  Jess was asked to join the Voice S15 and has had to keep it a secret all year. She spent an extended period of time in Sydney in Term 1 where the show was filmed. Jess works with a band call HOMEWARD, they have 4 singles out at the moment including her debut single ‘Before I Found You’. This can be found on Spotify or Apple Music.

It is probably not well known that our Jess has worked on One Voice (Greatest Hits of John Farnham), A Dedication to Adele, Legends of Soul, and The Robbie Williams Experience.

Jess works with many great vocalists including Taryn Stokes and Karise Eden (both Winners of The Voice), and Kate DeAraugo (Young Divas and winner of Australian Idol), and has supported the likes of Wendy Matthews, Ross Wilson and Deborah Conway with her original band HOMEWARD. 

The question I’m sure you are asking is how does she do all of that and still be an outstanding teacher that cares so much about her students? Well I’m not sure myself how Jess fits everything into her busy life. But I know one thing, which is that I’m going to watch on TV and cheer our wonderful Jess on! 

PREP 2027

The offers to gain a place at WYPS went out on Monday afternoon. Parents have two weeks to decide if they want their place or not. At the moment we have more families, that would like to join our school community, than we have places. Therefore, if families do not want a place we will offer that place to another family. It was nice to hear how grateful some families from outside our school zone were when they were offered a place. Our school is basically full and therefore we are not looking to increase numbers, only to keep the current equilibrium that we have.

100 DAYS OF PREP

Some of our Preps told me that they didn’t need to come to school anymore because they had completed 100 days! Didn’t they just look so wonderful as old people. Thank you to the parents for really getting involved in the day and making such wonderful costumes. The Preps had a ball on the day which was capped off by them getting a certificate at assembly.

CURRICULUM DAY

Just a reminder that next Friday 14th August,  is our curriculum day for the term. I am sorry if this causes any inconvenience. 

HOOPTIME

On Tuesday 4th August, our Year 3/4 students travelled to the Yarra Centre to compete in the Hooptime Basketball Tournament. 14 teams represented our school throughout the day, it was fantastic to see our students demonstrate outstanding skill, teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Three of our Future Stars teams progressed through to the finals, with the Woori Lions narrowly defeating the Woori Cougars 8–6 in a thrilling grand final.

Our All Stars teams also had an outstanding day, with both the boys and girls teams advancing to the grand finals. The girls were crowned champions with a 7–0 victory over Yarra Glen, while the boys delivered a dominant performance against Yarra Junction winning 24–2.

Congratulations to all of our students for the way they represented our school with enthusiasm, determination and respect. It was a fantastic day of basketball, and we are incredibly proud of everyone's efforts.'

BREAKFAST & PJ DAY

Breakfast with your teacher and classmates is something that has come out of listening to our grade six leaders. They have been very strong on the importance of this event and want it to run every year. As you can see by the photos it is a great day full of fun and comfort! 

Please remember that when life becomes difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book. Reading before bedtime has great benefits for all ages!
