Grade 1 & 2 Term 3 News
Applied Learning
Children have commenced Term 3 learning about Earth and Space! To support their understanding take joy in noticing:
- the colours of the sunset
- the first evening star
- the moon and how clouds change
- where the sun rises
- which birds become active at dusk and how the night sounds different.
Listen to your child tell stories about their school learning as they explore the solar system, tell different views about the sky from cultural perspectives or speak about astronomers who visit or our Planetarium excursion. To end the term, children will apply their learning by planning and hosting a family star gazing event. Fun times ahead.

Mathematics
To help observe patterns and change so far, we have been learning about mathematical
thinking through patterns and sequences. Leading on from pattern, we have been learning all about shapes! Students have explored parallelograms, quadrilaterals and polygons and learnt how to construct them. We have also explored the properties of these shapes by learning how to count their sides and vertices.
Japanese Day
On Japanese Day, we learnt about Tanabata, the Japanese festival of stars which occurred earlier this month on July 7th. The story followed the characters of
Orihime The Weaver Princess and Hikoboshi The Cow Herd who fell in love but became separated from each other across the Milky Way but are allowed to cross paths just once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month. The children created an art piece showing their story.
Also, a big congratulations to Levi for winning the Janken Championship for 1/2.
