PATHWAYS SUSTAINABILITY

Pathways students discussed where humans get nutrition from and compared this with plants. They learned how plants get nutrition from the soil. Spring and summer are ideal times to feed plants with organic fertilizers in pellet or liquid form. We discussed that some fertilizers contain seaweed or fish. We also learned about different types of manures such as Cow, Sheep and Chicken to nourish the soil.  Megan, Krystal and Storm put on masks and gloves to use potting mix to pot up parsley, oregano and thyme herbs in our vertical growing area. Maddy, Thomas and Jason followed the instructions of one capful of fertilizer to 9 litres of water to fill the water cans. Josh planted zucchini seedlings into the beds. Students took turns to apply liquid and pelletized fertilizer and water the garden beds. Everyone worked very responsibly to get all the tasks done before the weather changed.
