Wellbeing Continuum Rubric

Gallery Image

As part of the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) initiative with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, we have been using the Wellbeing Continuum since 2022 as an assessment tool for teachers to identify students at risk with their wellbeing in the following domains: emotions; behaviour; social relationships;  thoughts;  sleep; energy; routines, rhythms and rituals; and learning. Students can be assessed against the continuum criteria of: good, coping, struggling and overwhelmed.

This data is used by the mental health and wellbeing team to triangulate other assessment data (PBIS office referrals, attendance, equity) and referrals to determine students who need support additional to what is universally available at Tier 1. It may also support sub-school Leading Teachers to identify classes who require support at Tier 1 in line with VTLM.

To strengthen teacher's judgements against the continuum, we have developed a rubric of criteria for each domain aligned to the language from Disability Inclusion. This will be rolled out through Jackson Learner session early in Term 4.

World Mental Health Day

Mental Health Month is held in October each year, with World Mental Health Day taking place on 10 October.

This is an important moment to raise awareness of mental health, reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support when they need it. It’s also an opportunity to pause, check in with ourselves and those around us, and reflect on how we can look after our own mental health and wellbeing.

This year’s theme is Together We Thrive. Whether at home, at work, at school, in the community or online, this Mental Health Month we're encouraging everyone to start conversations, share their stories and strengthen the connections that help us thrive.

As part of our 50th Year, we are working with MAPS Marketing to develop a new website. This will have an overview of information for prospective families with accessibility features and increased translation capability. This will also support families with low literacy. For prospective staff and community members there will be enhanced information who seek to learn more about Jackson School. In Term 4 we will develop a Virtual Tour with new promotional photos. We also welcome your feedback on the design and content of our new website.
