Five Minutes with Mr Ardi

BSC Staff Member

What is your role at the school?

Learning Specialist of Student Voice and Agency.

How long have you worked at Beaumaris?

Since the end of 2021.

Do you follow sport/AFL?

Haha. No.

Favourite part of the job?

Telling kids to eat outside.

What's a great movie you’ve watched recently?

'Civil War' by Alex Garland. It's about photojournalism during wartime which left me reeling.

What animal would you like to be for a day?

Flamingo.

What is your favourite music?

I listen to podcasts!

A recent favourite podcast?

I would recommend ‘Pod Save The World’. It is written and created by two speechwriters and staffers for Barack Obama, so they provide very good insight. A more hard-hitting podcast is Dan Carlin's 'Hardcore History Series', with its 6-hour long episodes. It really amps up the “me” - there is no comedy or humour in my listening.

What was the last book you read?

'The Slow Regard of Silent Things' by Patrick Rothfuss.

Who inspires you?

Rita Pierson.  Her Ted Talk 'Every kid needs a champion'. My whole teaching philosophy wrapped up in a 15-minute Ted Talk.

What was your favourite subject at school?

Toss-up between Classical Studies and Renaissance Europe.

What would you sing at karaoke night?

Could be 'Shake It Off', 'Call Me Maybe' or 'Party in the USA'.

What skill would you like to master?

Dancing.

Do you have a message for students you may teach in the coming years?

Be open to opportunities, whether it’s having three desserts in one night or taking on international work experience.

Do you collect anything?

Every time I travel to a new country, I always grab a religious totem or mythological figures. I have an assortment of all these ancient and classical icons.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

Power to fill anything up: an empty cup, fill it up; an empty bank account, fill it up; an empty plate, fill it up.

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Jason Mantzoukas.

Thanks, Mr Ardi!
